Someone made a mistake:

It's nice to see this kind of victory. Good luck collecting on the judgement though... ---- Incomplete list of my gear: Microsoft Windows XP |

Unfortunately, the court will not be sending armed agents to Chile to force that fellow to pay up.
The article doesn't mention if (or how much)the downloaders payed the 'cracker'. There may not be anywhere near the amount of money available that the judgement calls for. |

This is old hat (the story is 6 months old) and was discussed quite a bit at the time.
The case is - as others have said - largely symbolic, given that Mr. Casas is located thousands of miles from US jurisdiction. |

The settlement could be collected if CineSamples goes through all of the complicated international hoops to have the Chilean SJC support the settlement, or some version of it. There are policies and procedures in place for dealing with multinational litigation, but ultimately you need a "working relationship" with the foreign govt. Also default settlements is a complicating factor. From what I've read of Chile, specifically law changes in recent years, that country is on the short list of slightly-easier-to-deal-with countries wrt. litigation. In the end, I'm not sure the actual costs + time (where time = cost when it comes to lawyers ---- You need to limit that rez, bro. |

I hate piracy. But I'm NOT a cinesamples fan. I got hosed on metallurgy and since you can't resell it, it's just a bad experience writeoff. |

I actually quite like Cinesamples and some of their products.
But personal preference or individual negative experiences aside, I congratulate them to their ... sort-of success. ---- TINY METAL IMPACT - UPDATE Mar 1st '13 - available for Kontakt 4.2+ I guess one could call lead poisoning an ironic death. |

Not so keen on that, 'cause that would mean they'd stop supporting my Kontakt 4... so shhhh! ---- TINY METAL IMPACT - UPDATE Mar 1st '13 - available for Kontakt 4.2+ I guess one could call lead poisoning an ironic death. |

Screw the courts...just send a couple of guys down to Chile and break Pablo's legs.....that's how we do it in Vegas...... But seriously it's good to see a victory no matter how symbolic..... ---- None are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe |

The samples take 5 million years to load and then when they do, the GUI is all wonky. I sent a support ticket asking about when they'd support K5 and they said use K4 |

Hmmm, they load slower only the first time. If you resave in K4.2 and use background loading it's quite a bit faster.
If the GUI is a bit wonky, the graphics aren't pulled from the correct folder (i.e. if you're using K5 instead of K4). However, there's a relatively easy fix for that. The graphics should be installed here: Win XP -> C:\Documents And Programs\<your username>\My Documents\Native Instruments\Kontakt 4\Pictures Win 7 -> C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\Native Instruments\Kontakt 4\Pictures Simply copy the relevant Cinesamples folder found within that Pictures folder to the same path, except instead of "Kontakt 4" folder, use "Kontakt 5". Voila, it works. Similar thing is valid for OSX as well. ...and you will have a PM incoming soon. Last edited by EvilDragon on Sat Aug 18, 2012 11:56 am; edited 1 time in total |
