Had a chance to play with the Yamaha Thr-10 yesterday. Man.. I want that thing so bad! It sounds friggin awesome and is really useful too, at least in a home setting but I bet I could get some awesome tones from it in the studio as well.

I can't imagine getting much lows out of a small box like that, do you really think from a recording perspective this might be useful to someone owning say a small tube combo?

A big ommission from my point of view is a set of line outputs to record this without micing it...?

Thanks for drawing this to our attention bmanic - looks pretty interesting. I am also a little bummed about the lack of audio outputs but the thing has USB connections and comes with a lower version of Cubase so I am guessing you can record direct out digitally to a DAW. This configuration may not suit those of us working with other sound cards.

It has a surprisingly "full" sound. You must test it yourself to realize just how good it sounds.

It's a full USB recording and playback interface as well. Should work very well with Asio4All drivers, or perhaps yamaha even has some own Asio driver for it?

I just ordered mine from Thomann so I can report back in a few days.

The only problem I've heard of is the non-working battery operation when using it at full volume so it wont cut it for a street musician (it would be easily loud enough) but as I'm only going to use it for fun at home it's going to be perfect. I just wanted a box for instant gratification and inspiration when I'm home.

Also life in general is getting more hectic now that my kids are growing up.. and then there's the youngest who has learned how to climb stairs and other such hazardous things. Never a dull moment at home, that's for sure!

One of the things I just HATE about 99% of real amps I play through is how horrible they are at volume. I mean, if you have the volume all the way down and sound is coming through, LAME! I also really hate noisy switches This has noisy switches. No blackstars at GC They seem to consistently have the best volume control, gain, switching. The more expensive the amp I play through, usually the more they suck.

Wow, that's fast delivery. Would love to hear your thoughts on the sound, but the lack of line output options kinda makes it a dealbreaker for me. Does Yamaha have the same modeling algos on a POD style box?

I have no idea what else they have currently on their modeling side. I own a Yamaha DG Stomp as well but it's now broken. It had some awesome modeled tones and that's now like 5-6 years old. They were always way better at modeling than line6.

My guess is that these current algos are an evolution on those old ones. Heck, they might even be the very same.

The old DG series stomps and such had proper balanced line outputs. However I do not recommend buying one, not even second hand as the chip itself in them apparently dies of age very quickly (in around 5 years) making it useless.

Basically you can use the headphone output as a line out.. depending on the impedance they've gone with. I'm not sure if it's typical consumer headphone output dealing well with low impedance headphones or a more studio typical thing that needs higher impedance. I'll know soon enough. Just made my payment today and it should ship later in the day, or at the latest tomorrow. Shipment is usually pretty fast from Germany to Finland. 2 or 3 days usually.

It's also a problem for live performance. We can't just plug a USB cable into a PA.

Try a Suhr Badger 18. The power scaling it uses sounds incredible, it isn't nearly as transparent as they claim but it does sound extremely good. In fact, there were a lot biting Marshall Jubilee-type tones that I was only able to get with the power scaling turned low, which I couldn't replicate with the power scaling off.

I have one of those. It was pretty good when it was released but I personally don't think the amp modeled tones are very good. It does make for a great multi-effects pedals with the amp modeling turned off, though.

I have a friend that is in love with everything Suhr
