I am out of room on my iPad2. I need more room. I would like to get iCloud storage, but I am not sure if that is really what I need.

Since you cannot add to memory, plug in a SD card or thumb drive, iCloud seems to be the only way to get more storage - but what I need is more room on my device.

Say I want to record with one of my DAWs (or buy Auria . . .), I'm currently out of space, so how would I free up space and still retain all my apps?

Someone please explain to me if iCloud is the solution . . . or not????

No. iPad can BACKUP to an outside computer, but you cannot use an app outside of it. I do not want to offload anything. Most of it are synths and samples. I want those at my disposal.

I'm dealing with this issue too. I wish I had paid the extra $$$ for more storage. As it is, I am using a 16Gb ipad. Some ways I'm getting around this is to use cloud-based storage methods (as you mentioned above). You will need to get a good file manager, so that it isn't as cumbersome. I use Dropbox, Google Drive, and Microsoft's SkyDrive as my main storage spots. I store loops, multisamples, songs, etc on those places. I also use Plex to offload any multimedia I may want to have available, rather than tryig to store anything at all on my device. I try to store as much as I can offline, except for what I need the most. I hope this helps a little.

Since i'm a PC guy, I don't think like a Mac user, regardless of the fact that I love my iPad2.

Is iCloud like a hard drive? Can I use a synth/DAW and load a sample or sound file directly from iCloud and load it into my DAW or do I have to do the iTunes dance which I REFUSE TO DO. I HATE ITUNES. It is an abomination. Would it have been so freakin difficult to allow the iPad to accept files through the USB camera connection kit. It's just ridiculous.

I have a Acer A500 that can accept several ways to increase your memory and even use a hard drive, but its latency is so bad, no serious music apps can be created (save for Caustic) and no 3rd party will touch it.

Then you have the iPad, which is AMAZING for creating music and fast as snot - but no way to increase the amount of memory or add a hard drive or storage device.

It's a freakin tradjedy.

What you need is to throw out your iPad and buy one with more memory. Yes, I'm being sarcastic, but that is what the Apple philosophy boils down to. As far as I can tell, iCloud is just a place to back up your files so you can retrieve them if you ever need reformat your iPad. Its an alternative to backing things up on a local computer via iTunes.

Apple deliberately chose not to allow the iPad to be accessed like a hard drive because it just opens the device up to modification and piracy. Granted, both of those things are still possible, but far less common than on Android devices. I'm not saying its a good thing or a bad thing, but there it is.

I do find it personally offensive that there is no upgrade path for adding additional memory to an existing iPad.

TBH, I did buy a 32GB iPad2. However, it seems like I have not filled it all up with apps. I think there are temp files or something like that filling it up, but I have no access to delete anything nor are there any real file organizer apps, like on the Android.

I have NO MUSIC, NO VIDEOS and NO PICTURES on my iPad2 by the way.

Have you tried iExplorer or iFunBox on your PC to look for and delete temp files or other unneeded files? Caution should be exercised to prevent mangled data that could cause fatal errors.

I knew running out of memory was going to eventually be an issue so I bit the bullet and opted for the 64 GB iPad 3. Too much money for the extra memory IMO but I'm glad I did. I just passed the halfway mark on it recently.

iCloud doesn't let you store anything that is not also on your iPad so it's probably not going to save you space. iTunes Match can save some space though by keeping music available but in the cloud. Just download it when you want to play it then delete it off the iPad but it stays in the cloud. I also keep a lot of files offline in Dropbox and Box.net cloud based folders - that could work. The other alternative would be a wifi hard drive.

There are several ways to store stuff off of an iPad and have access to it. Try being more specific with what types of files and apps, how you want to use them and such. Disk streaming is becoming more frequent, beatmaker 2 uses it nicely. Dropbox integration has substantially improved, and you can get 2gb for free to try it out. Also, Seagate has a wifi hard drive accompanied by a free app that allows you to stream content to several devices at once. Google is your friend there. And, using iTunes file sharing, you can upload and OFFLOAD files if the app(like Auria) support it.

I bought most the DAWs for iPad (Meteor, Multitrack, etc). I am seriously thinking about buying Auria and then using that in conjunction with a hardware 8 in 8 out box so I can record as many as 8 tracks at once. Pretty sweet. However, I can see filling up what little space I have left on my iPad2. Either I delete my apps or offload them - but I still want to use them.

Is that more clear.

As stated previously, I have NO MUSIC, PICTURES or VIDEOS on the device. Just music-related apps (many of which that came with large sample libraries, such as Alchemy, FL Studio for iPad, etc).

Hmm, I would've thought you had a lot of videos on device to run out of space that quick. Since that is not the case, if you can go a few weeks without your iPad, you could trade in your current model and get a larger one. You could even get the new iPad if you currently have an older one. I have received incredible trade in value when using POWERMAX. They are top notch, and very fair. Good luck.

I traded in an iPad 1 64gb wifi for $500. I also traded in an old PPC Mac pro quad and two cinema displays for $2000.
They were all in excellent condition, original boxes cables and manuals of course. I bought an iPad 2 when it came out and a 27" iMac i7 loaded up. They are great people up there.

Nice! That sounds great! I've got the place bookmarked. When the time comes, I'd like to upgrade to a more powerful system, with a LOT more storage than I have right now.
