The VST that are delivered with cubase have many presets.Very Happy
Other VSTi have many programs, that you can change with program change messages,so that they are recordable in MIDI tracks. Neutral
The presets in steinberg VSTi are NOT programs, they don't listen to PC messages.Nutter
So what if you want to record different sounds that are defined as PRESETS ,on a MIDI track? Rolling Eyes
Is it possible to turn Steinberg VSTi presets into programs ,so that they will listen to PC change? Party!
It seems easy but I could not find the way. Aaaargghhh

Someone? Help

Is this question too difficult?
Maybe my English is inadequate.
I am talking about Steinberg VSTi like Halion,Spector ,Prologue.......
Why dont they listen to any Program Change Message? Crying or Very sad
I still use Cubase5.(except the Steinberg VSTi. Shocked

Cubase VSTi don't respond to patch/bank messages .. use automation parameters. Pretty sure most of the Steiny VSTi worked that way in 5.

I gave you bad info, I didn't have 5 running anymore. But, it looks like that was already removed in 5. I couldn't recall at what point in the Media Bay stupidity you couldn't patch select anymore.

Found that REVerence( an audio plugin)can do it.Thumbs Up!

automation parameters: RecallPreset and Preset-Nr

But I couldn't find these parameters within other CB VSTi.
Is it possible to find the CC numbers?
Or maybe upgrade to 6?
Can CB6 do something like change presets on the fly?

I wonder. Troll

No, Cubase 6 doesn't bring this back.
Your best bet (only bet?) is to use a different track (with a different instance of the VST instrument) per preset (unless the VST instrument is multitimbral, in which case you can load a different preset into each MIDI channel, then, effectively, change presets by changing MIDI channels).

I did get a life,once...but it was faulty, so I sent it back.

The reason Cubase removed this functionality is that all of the patch management features were moved to Media Bay, So, it doesn't make sense to send a MIDI message that could be choosing from 103094802938409238409823098409234 patches. Some VSTi vendors, like uhe, have created a special patch folder structure that you can put the patches in and control via MIDI. But, they specifically had to code for it. Steinberg has chosen to eliminate this capability from their synths. I just couldn't remember when it was completely removed. At one point you could get to patches via automation. I guess that was either SX-3 or possibly C4.

So,

no automation for Steinberg VSTi presets Zzzzzzzzz

(instead the possibility of Program Change in all other
Vst from all other manufacturers)
except REVerence where I actually could SEE the presets change during playback!

Imagine this could happen with awesome Prologue Mystic HALion Spector .....

Why not sample these brillant instruments and use them in a sampler like (multitimbral) Kontakt5 among others?

I guess this has all been discussed a long time ago,

but I am just interested immensely. Shocked

Thnx !
