Slowing it down for my current project.
Just finished the arrangement and halfway done with the mix, I'll hopefully have the album done early october!
Let me know what you think.

Quite proud of my new trick of pitching resampled loops up and down for rhythmic variation
I think I'll be doing more mangling with the end of the song, glitch or microloop or ringmod it into oblivion and then out of the madness have the next track.

Straight up awesome! The glitchy yet maxed out vibe I get from this track is exactly what I'm looking for. The drums are my favorite part. What are you using? Really nice bass too. Booming in my headphones without being overpowering.
Keep it up!

The drums are a mix of analog and operator in ableton (resampled and manipulated)
Thank you! I did this version of the mix through cassette, which seems to do wonders for the bass presence!

Woah! This is awesome!
I really like the dirt this track has!
It also doesn't just loop the same stuff over and over again (A problem many tracks of this genre have).
I could imagine the rhythm to go more more abstract over time until it becomes a mess wich sounds random in isolation but awesome in the context of the track.
Maybe I just listen too much to Autechre though
Absolutely fantastic track
Thanks for sharing
Cheers

Thanks guys!
Dennis, I definitely want to explore those kind of arrangement tricks in my next project. I'm not sure how well it would fit this current batch of tracks, but I'm very excited to try!

Lots of nice elements on here. Great drums, and bass. The keys sound really cool. I like the way that things evolve towards the end of the track. It keeps things interesting.
Good work

Do you pitch them up and down manually, with a LFO or pitch bend or via automation? BTW, a BPM-synced vibrato FX with a slow rate would make a similar sound...quayquay17 wrote:Quite proud of my new trick of pitching resampled loops up and down for rhythmic variation

I like the track, but it is something that I've heard quite often before in older chillout and hiphop songs...I thought of Moby, intuitively.

It is mildly moby inspired
For the pitch tricks it's really just recording key loops, sticking them in a sampler, and finding pitches that speed up or slow down the loop in an interesting way.
From there, I rendered out, and I think I timestretched/pitched one of them to fit the arrangement better.

Isn't this a technique that hip hop producers are using since 30 years? (The only new thing is that there are better timestretching algorithms today).quayquay17 wrote:It is mildly moby inspired

But indeed it's a great idea to revive old techniques. I'll do, too - I love vocal stutter effects of the 90ies, disco sound of the 80ies, and scratching effects...

Well, that was quite awesome.
I'm jealous too - I'm always trying to make kits out of just Operator, Analog, etc., and always end up spending hours creating a bad emulation of a real kit, as opposed to something unique like this.
I might just need some heroin or something to lighten me up.

Pretty much, I wasn't implying that I invented it, only that I've never personally recognized the use of the method. So it's new to meTricky-Loops wrote: Isn't this a technique that hip hop producers are using since 30 years?
