So I finally got my copy of Steve Hackett's new CD "Genesis Revisited II" in the mail yesterday and I'm listening to it at work today and while the CD is loading up in the drive I happened to notice... there's tentacle prints all over this thing!

Not just a credit or two but even a picture of our favorite Squid! :o

Congratulations, Dave! You must be pretty damn proud of your involvement with such an awesome project - it sounds incredible, of course, and is a very worthy successor to the original Genesis Revisited. It's been quite a while since I've played those older songs but Steve's take has really refreshed them and made me want to listen to them all over again... and again and again.

"Supper's Ready" made me feel just like I did when I heard it for the very first time so many years ago.

I know you've mentioned the project a few times on your facebook page, but I didn't recall ever seeing any mention of it here on KVR, so just wanted to plug it for the fans here and say "great job and thanks for being a part of it!"

Thanks Mad One!

Here are some videos from Hackett and King talking about it:

If you want to read about that and all sorts of things I have a new blog called "Squids Travels" here: http://squidstravels.blogspot.com/

I played keys and did some 'additional production' on the album by getting Francis Dunnery and Simon Collins (Phil's son that I have a band with) to sing on the album. On top of that we just played a gig WITH Steve Hackett but if you want to see that video and the backstory to all that then just check out my blog. It tells all... like the old KVR Squids Mega Post X 100! Haha.

I bought the CD a couple of weeks ago, and I'm very impressed. The Genesis tracks sound comfortably similar to the originals, but contain enough differences to keep the album interesting whilst retaining the feel of the originals.

Very enjoyable :tu:

It was a real trip to be sitting there with his stem tracks for Supper's Ready and Dancing With The Moonlit Knight on my computer. So exciting! Plus they were using a lot of our sounds and software to make the record. Really cool to see it in action for something like that. But it worked well. SampleTron came through! Plus other things that Roger mentions.

If you're too lazy to read my blog at the very least here's me playing with Steve Hackett doing "I Know What I Like". I did the Arp solo using Sonik Synth 2. I actually had in my grips Tony Banks actual Arp ProSoloist just a few days before and nearly used that but... too much hassle to drag that and everything else around on the trains. However SampleTank, SS2, SampleTron all came through for me on the gig. Also a good "put it to the test" situation.

Anyway, check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUpH_w3BUrM

I enjoyed the videos, particularly Cuckoo Cocoon and the Classical Gas impro.

Thanks for posting these :)

Glad you like them. If you ever want something to listen to that has lots of Sonic Reality sounds in action + Progressive Rock here's my "Sonic Elements" (Sonic Reality Progressive Rock Project) Sound Cloud page: http://www.soundcloud.com/sonicelements Loads of work in progress clips up there.

I'll check these out from time to time. Thanks very much.

A nice interview with Steve by the owner of Esoteric Records in the UK.

Be aware that it lasts for almost an hour.

I will definitely be buying that album.
I wonder if he plans to do a limited vinyl press of it?

I'm going to be guesting on stage with Steve Hackett and playing the solo to Supper's Ready and other cool things on September 20th and 21st along with Simon Collins and Francis Dunnery. Plus the night before we're doing our own concert at the same theater (Sept 19th).

More info will be here: http://www.soundofcontact.com

Good luck with the rest of the tour. I just played to the two videos. Very impressive indeed.

Hopefully I'm going to see Los Endos tomorrow night if I can get hold of a couple of tickets. I think they are MIDI'd up, including a double-neck MIDI guitar.
