Cheapest way to Live 9?

I have a Live 8 Lite license (8 tracks only) which I'm really digging after not using Live since V.5. I'm almost ok with the track count, I don't usually get that many more tracks into a project than that anyhow. But regardless, it is hard to keep it to 4midi/4audio, so now I'm considering upgrading to a fuller version. My question is what are my options? Per my Ableton account I could get Live 8 for $284. Is that the cheapest way in? I'm not too interested in bundled content or instruments, but need to check out what is coming in 9.

I believe right now whats in your account is the cheapest your gonna get. The only people who still have to wait are those with suite licenses since that discount is coming later
Heres the comparison of versions for live 9:
https://www.ableton.com/en/live/feature-comparison/
The main differences being that suite comes with the instruments plus all the extra content. But what you might be interested in that suite does come with is m4l which now includes drum synths, a convo reverb, and the usual assortment of sequencers and midi effects, plus the whole m4l environment to build your own plus use other user created patches. Suite also has amp cabinet and corpus. Out of all of that though, from your posts Ive seen around, youd probably like it for all the midi mangling since theres an insane amount of sequencers, chord manipulators, arps, etc for m4l. It very much lends itself to generative programming just by throwing a ton of midi effects one after another on a track

I think I'm most interested in a complete suite of sequencers and midi effects. For the instruments themselves though I'm pretty covered. Anyhow the price being what it is I think I'll just stick with my handy dandy 8 track and export to Studio One to lush it up and master it. Just the songwriting aspect that Live brings is so wonderful, I really get stuff done with the piano roll more than maybe any other I've used and the clip paradigm for sketching out ideas and seeing how different stuff works together is just so organic to me. I'm primarily a (bad) guitarist and so not making dance music that Live is well known for, so my 'band' is usually small and limited to drums (BFD so everything internal so only taking a track), Trillian (also has multi-timberal internal mixer so I can have more stuff on one track as needed.), a few synths, a guitar and a vocal track or two. It is a little cramped at 8 and I have to bounce to audio since I'm limited to 4 midi tracks, but oh well, the price is currently prohibitive which I have to take as a good thing because otherwise I'm so impulsive i would buy yet another DAW that doesn't 'complete' me fully anyhow. Maybe working with some limitations will be inspiring and I think I'm going to try and make the most of the Lite license for now.

To see things on the 'sunny side' I don't have to be concerned with what bank my control surface is set to control, since I have 8 faders and 8 tracks!

I just went through this, and I ended up going with the suite boxed
Yes, it's a lot. But I like you was really impressed with my little lite 8 (which I did the beta x64) but being a host ho, I feel for the bells and whistles.
I'm using session drums almost every day. Quite impressive, quite deep. Even just for jamming on bass or guitar. If you have the AAS version of electric, then that doesn't do you any good but I like it. I wanted all the loops. In live, loops are kewl Sampler is nice, operator is really good actually. Tension has it's place, I don't know what I'm missing but it's really complete. I like analog too.
I also fell for the "max 4 live" thing as an option for later. I figured, 599 now and get EVERYTHING when live 9 comes out instead of needing anything. WCS, I sell it next year if 9 for some reason doesn't work out

Sweetwater has Intro for $69.00. How limited is that? It seems to have all the track count I need, and if it is missing some plugins that's kool, I have plenty available beyond Live. But the question is: what will the upgrade to a Live 9 be, if it even will exist? Not that I couldn't live with simply more tracks in 8. And not that I can't live with just using Lite as a scratchpad and going to Studio One to complete the production. That actually seems like the best use of all resources available, I doubt I would be that happy with Live exclusively, melodyne is spoiling me. Anyhow Studio One 2.5 will also be out soon, I guess I just have to wait and see.

I can't list all those features, but the difference from intro to "full" is significant. Groups, complex warping, slicing to midi......I can't remember them all.
Also, I usually have 4 sends (two verbs, ubermod for delay and a buss comp) and intro only allows 2. Plus you are going to get into projects where you are going to run out of scenes/tracks, etc. TRUST me on that. I coming up on a month into it, and I couldn't use intro after having this.
BTW, in case it matters, I've basically had 2 crashes. That's it. Reported them to the abes......don't know if they'll fix them. Point, REALLY stable!

Unfortunately very limited, 2 more scenes for a total of 8, 64 audio tracks, unlimited MIDI but, and a BIG but, the same limitations on VST and Live Instruments! so you have to ask yourself why unlimited tracks with that kind of limit and 8 scenes?braj wrote:Sweetwater has Intro for $69.00. Kind of useless in my book, your better off going with the full version.

Well, if using multi-timberal instruments having the extra midi channels do help, as well as more audio tracks so VSTi's can be bounced. I think if I can get it for $50 it would be well worth it, which is the discount you get off the full version with an Intro license. Paying more means you lost whatever is over $50 when upgrading.

There are many advantages to keeping-it-simple, particularly 'controller' wise (IMO).braj wrote:To see things on the 'sunny side' I don't have to be concerned with what bank my control surface is set to control, since I have 8 faders and 8 tracks!
Get this: Chainer
Load it as a Vst in an instrument track. Load any number of instruments/effects into it.
Record output.

I think the easiest way to live nine times is to be a cat.

I use MUX to take care of the same sort of weird routing in Studio One, so I have chains of plugins ready to make the most of the limited midi track count.Shabdahbriah wrote:There are many advantages to keeping-it-simple, particularly 'controller' wise (IMO).braj wrote:To see things on the 'sunny side' I don't have to be concerned with what bank my control surface is set to control, since I have 8 faders and 8 tracks!

Ah. Haven't looked into MUX yet, but it's on the 'to do'.braj wrote:I use MUX to take care of the same sort of weird routing in Studio One, so I have chains of plugins ready to make the most of the limited midi track count.Shabdahbriah wrote:There are many advantages to keeping-it-simple, particularly 'controller' wise (IMO).braj wrote:To see things on the 'sunny side' I don't have to be concerned with what bank my control surface is set to control, since I have 8 faders and 8 tracks!
