But you cannot COPY it. You couldn't bring your purchased comic to the copy shop, copy it 10 times and give the copies to your friends, either - this wouldn't be legal. |

Great! More warez supporting scum with braindead arguments. When I buy a comic I actually buy the magazine and not a license to read it. When I buy software I do not buy the product but the right to use it, e.g. I am not allowed to change the code. Thus I have no right to share the product beyond what is agreed to in my license. About Williambraveheart here, we are talking about a user who have entered KVR may 2012 and this is his second post. It is amazing how threads such as this can make the slime-things come creeping from their holes in the ground. Hiding behind their sockpuppets and God knows what. |

If I buy an album, can I share it with a friend? If I buy a guitar, can I let a friend use it? Am I allowed to modify my guitar and then sell it? Am I allowed to give away a book that I have already read?
I see lots of products that are samples of hardware synths, and samples of sample players, are these products illegal? I see software effects that are blatant copies of hardware effects, is this Illegal? If I take the algorithms from a product and wrap my own GUI around it, is that illegal? If I sample a Yamaha drum, do I have to give Yamaha a percentage of my sales? I am buying a license to use a software product, and I have no rights other than provided for in said license. Wrong, software developers application of a licensing paradigm does not curtail or reduce the rights I retain from common law. Copyright protection is a serious matter, and needs to be effective, so that the creators of media are compelled to produce superior content. Software developers have unfortunately abused the consumer with the licensing paradigm. I have one product that uses an ilok 2. It is Ivory 2. I will never buy an ilok product again, and I do not like what I have to go through to sell my licensed Ivory 2. Ivory 2 is a great product, but I hate the dongle, so I don't use it. I also have Reason 6.5 which uses a dongle. I purchased Reason 4 and Record 1.0 when it was released, soon Reason 5 was released, I did not upgrade. Reason 6 was released and Propellerheads allowed me to upgrade for $1.00, and up to reason 6.5 for free. Thank you Propellerheads for being decent, however at the same time, I bought "hypersampled" refills from them, and they suck, and I felt ripped off. Plus I never got a $50 rebate visa card from Line6 for the purchase. Reason is a great product, but I don't use it. I may use it some time though, despite the dongle. My hateful feelings have been mitigated by the generous upgrade deal. I also own Cubase 5, which uses a dongle. Soon after I bought it Cubase 6 was released I did not upgrade. then they released Cubase 6.5, I did not upgrade. Cubase 7 is now being released, I probably will not upgrade, because it is not fair that I have to pay more overall to use the product then someone who is purchasing it for the first time. I will never buy a product that requires a dongle again. I am painfully aware of why there is a warez scene, and I sympathize, even though I don't condone it, or participate in it. Frankly, I view the warez scene as a necessary evil, but I truly wish there was no need for it ---- Signature blocked until 5 posts made |
