Hi,
I updated the homepage section: extras http://www.robpapen.com/book-a-dvds-extras.html Added is the Cameleon-5000 preset (which also can be used inside Alchemy)and the setup of the synthesizers.com System-22 modular synth. What will follow are the presets used of Predator. But that is a big more work then expected Best, Rob |

I'm trying to purchase it but beside the UK link nothing else is available for buying.
I'm in the US. Should I go through timespace.com? ---- MuLab 4, Studio One v2. In that order. |

The default currency is Euro, but PayPal will convert it for you. I had many shipments to USA. You receive a tracking number. It only takes a bit longer now IMO because of the holiday season. It is send by PostNL (Dutch postal service). In case of questions, just drop us a note Rob |

What is there for someone who's seen the NY school of synthesis vids, read SOS synth secrets, cann's how to make a noise, and generally knows his way around a synthesizer? I was expecting an in-depth examination of sound design but it looks more like a (very well-done) introduction to subtractive synthesis.
Absolutely, [As proud owner of RP's Albino3 and Predator synths for some years. Thank you so much for these creative tool to Rob and Jon!] I am also quite curious about this. I have read the same volumes as you have through the years (and tacking onto the reading list, Howard Scarr's extremely educating synthesis guide for Access Virus). Speaking of that, I am one who also is looking for a good GENERAL advanced guide (versus specialised and biased around one particular synth) which kind of compares to a moderate mixture between the nearly over-abundance of information found within Synth Secrets and Scarr's Synthesis guide for Access. I don't understand why it is not a possibility to compile such a volume. Reading Scarr's synthesis guide I can see there is -definitely- a more advanced yet generally practical side to subtractive synthesis. Of course I completely understand what Rob says about learning up to a point and then allowing the imagination to take control HOWEVER we never cease to learn and there are some excellent tricks which can be done...for example with tricky LFO routing and modulations, recursive modulation, understanding of multi-stage envelopes, ring modulation, FM applications within subtractive synthesis, advanced voice tuning trickery and unison techniques, advanced tried and true modulation routings to make patches more alive etc. etc. I would love to see some master designer use these in very practical manner on a dvd and further demonstrate explain the process and thinking. Does the RP guide go into any of this sort of thing or does it remain on a very basic "this is the ADSR envelope and a LFO is a Low Frequency OSC that can't be heard beause it is so low and look it can move the frequency of another destination etc...? I do not get a good enough idea from watching the "Walkthrough" portions of each DVD.. I would like to see some MEAT of the training offered before I purchase the product. That being said, I like the walkthroughs. I thought it was nice eye candy but I really wish to further my knowledge with synthesis on a more moderate to advanced application level (as others wish to do as well I can suspect). So thanks for any info one of you DVD owners might provide regarding this and best of luck to Rob and his new release) Cheers! |

What a long post.... The book is compact and practical, although it has over 200 pages and 10hr to look at on DVD. Made for starting synth players and intermediate. Even synth players that think 'I know everything' might find some interesting stuff. But they will not buy this most likely or do need it. The way I teach subtractive I started already in 2001. This effective training (and more) is now inside this product. Many already did benefit from my training and hopefully many also from this book with DVDs Rob |

What a long post.... I don't mind taking a small chunk of time to post about something like this. I tend to not spend a lot of time online anymore in general but I definitely strongly desire to have such an instructional video/book offering for those of us semi-familiar to subtractive synthesis, like I described (I came here to discuss this matter because of the email I just received from RP, so not so random as one might expect Rob Papen wrote: The book is compact and practical, although it has over 200 pages and 10hr to look at on DVD. Yes, this extreme about of time is why I would personally desire a better preview of the more practical content than what is currently offered with the Walkthrough section of each DVD. It is a great price you offer for the package BUT still a lot of money to give at this time.

Also why I would like a better preview...to see why people like me (a serious synth dabbler, versus a know-it-all, would get money's worth out of the package. I am sure it will be a success with many. I was only curious about what to expect, from my previously stated perspective on synthesis.
