Meh - talked to a local fried this morning about the bass, he says I need to spend more time with it and offered lessons in exchange for beer!
So I'm going to take some lessons before I give up completely, it could just be me trying to treat the bass as a big guitar (heh)!
Soldering iron, multimeter, solder, and solder sucker all in house now. Next up, picking a switch and getting pickups! I've decided to keep the factory arrangement of HSH, and stick a Duncan Vintage in the middle position, still putting the Dimebucker in the bridge and the Pearly Gates in the neck.
Just need to save up the cash now.. sigh.

The pickups looks interesting. Cool concept. I love that they don't use a standard out'a'tune tremolo. Amazing that it was still in tune! I've had my eyes on the one with tele/strat/strat but the price is too close to "dream warmoth guitar" so i better man up and finally buy and build that one instead

Crackbaby man, Agree on the BlackstarID amp's 'cruch' or that area from clean to breakup probably not its forte (as that is when/where the Anderton's owner usually plugs in/is his thing for sure). Won't know until I try one if it is good enough for my personal tastes but I'll admitt I really forgot about that when the high-gain sounds started which I'm a sucker for (Still I have high-gain ready BEAST on tap, I'd want to use pedals with it).
I still haven't tried either of the Yamaha THR devices as my local doesn't have a music tech/studio gear department so I have to go alot further afield to try out anything. So I could order in but I'd have to pay for it. I am looking forwards to trying a THR as it should take any of my pedals well when chance next happens!
Cheers and all the best
Dean
On btw, 8-String passed the test really well. This is it with only a minor tweak to the higher two strings plus a set of d'ad XLs on, Everything else is just as it is off the shelf for £279: http://www.mediafire.com/?8wdue5l8543g4tv

FINALLY got the RIGHT multimeter, solder sucker, and solder. Yeeswh!
Also just ordered a nice Duncan pickup for the middle position, and an E-Type Mega Switch from StewMac. Both should arrive next week.
This weekend I'll pop the pickguard off the RG and see what we have going on. I'll have money for the other two pickups next week and will order 'em then. I figure it's safe to leave the strings off 2-3 weeks while I burn myself accidentally with the soldering iron!
If this works out and I don't jack it up, the Strat will be next!

I admit to curiosity.. how tough is it to replace a neck? I see that Warmoth sells 'em with precut nuts, so I'm assuming it's modestly easy to remove the old neck, install the new one, adjust tilt etc. and then adjust the relief?Hink wrote:I bought a squire tele custom, bought a baritone neck from Warmoth, changed out everything with parts I own and only saved the body and pick guard...it cost me less than the Fender and if anything it's better than the Fender imo...I'm just sayingwoolyloach wrote:I think I'm going to sell my Ibanez bass and get a baritone guitar. Fender makes a nice-looking Tele baritone that should be decent with a little work. And it's in my price range!!

As hard as removing the 4 bolts and especially so if you were to go with a Warmoth job. I'll let John say the stuff as it is his guitar
But they (Warmoth necks, Bolt-On) fit as perfect as perfect gets for whatever specifications (An old, old band mate whom was sussposed to be a friend got a dirt cheap Kramer but the neck was f!cked, He wanted a full on red, black and white EVH finish and sick neck, So he went Warmoth and after the paint job and all when the neck arrived was done, It was the best playing Kramer I've ever played, I never mention the guy as he half inched quite abit of gear from me but still thats nothing to do with how good that Warmoth neck was...Which muggins here made certain of measuring properly and speccing out in well a heck of alot of detail/like I would if it were my own). I would do the 7ender body and Warmoth neck as the colour is also better if you go for the 7ender IMveryhumbleHO whereas its a shitburst* only on the 7ender baritone is it not?/IRRC
*Apologize to any/all sunburst fans out there and mean zero disrepect as when it is done well it really does work but for the 7enders around the same price I have seen its very meh*
If you ever fancy an 8-string T-type this is really just uber dope and despite the pic not doing it immense justice is shitburst:
and/or a 7-string in the best two colours that don't exist :
Heck I could and easily would. White with pretty much perfection want!
Wouldn't kick that one out of bed if it farted either!
ATB to all as always and GAS fatigue I think I'm getting...Tired of wanting

sorry my friend I missed this, if you get a warmoth neck with the double locking truss rod you likely wont have to mess with the relief. When I did my bari I was using a squire body and at first I had to shim the bridge a lot. I then inspected it further to find that the squire body was a little sloppy in the two corners of the neck pocket which took about a minute to fix just cutting them more square. While I used my dremel I could have done it with my xacto knife as it was that small of a fix....never touched the truss rod oncewoolyloach wrote:I admit to curiosity.. how tough is it to replace a neck? @Dean: Woah, some wild instruments there! I think six strings is enough for me, though..
@Hink: ok, cool! My main concerns were neck tilt and relief, so I feel warmer and fuzzier about it. Thanks for the info - much appreciated!
Once I finish p1mping up the RG, I might try to do the Hink Baritone trick.
