no automation curves?
at least the big players wake up now...but i can stick with auria and beatmaker until a Logic lite or Garageband pro version arrives
Would be nice to see virtual synths inside.I know,Audiobus, but it would be cool for the basics anyway.Audiobus for the specialists then

Well this is a good initiative for sure but in this version it will hardly live up to their marketing claim:
2) It has only basic audio editing and no chop lab like Beatmaker 2
3) It does not support audiobus and thus multitrack recording of apps like Multitrack Daw does
4 ) It has no automation lanes like Meteor has
So what is it that should make this app the best app for multitrack recording and midi production and worth the price then? The Cubase brand will hardly make it alone. Whether it will be the best depends on future updates then, so I will skip it for now.
1) As far as I can see, it has only rompler instruments with very few controls (if any at all) whereas Meteor has an onboard synth and sampler. Likewise has Beatmaker 2 an onboard sampler with lots of controlsNot only is Cubasis the best app to produce multitrack audio recordings, but also the best app to produce MIDI-based music.

good thing:the exist of cubasis for ipad now hopefully generates some more pressure to the developer to deliver midi (auria)or improve the audio effects (Beatmaker)soon
Besides probably better sounding effects i cant see any other advantages over BM2 right now.But tripple the price...
I don't wanna sound to negative, always good to have more choices/competition and i'll keep an eye on it how (if) it will grow in the future.

I daresay that other instruments/plugins will be added via in-app purchase. iPad Retrologue anyone?
Since Cubase is my DAW of choice, and I only work on a desktop PC, this new release is certainly of interest, if a bit expensive. Maybe Santa will buy me an iTunes gift card for Christmas...

$50 is quite a bit for an app considering what the competition offers. I stopped using Cubasis when it didn't suit my needs back in 2000 when I bought a Tascam US428 and Cubasis was bundled. It had only 8 tracks back then and no vst support, so it looks like it has come a long way since then, but Auria, Meteor, Multitrack, GarageBand, etc also offer plenty. Beatmaker 2 is like no other with a real outstanding drum sampler built in and it's keyboard, but the real goodie there is easy workflow and that drum sampler with all its great features.
Steinberg has its work to do with updates to stay on cutting edge, but at least we see a robust app out of them now to start. They have been in the game so long, they should be able to know what customers want and just put out a product that has full featured DAW stuff. If that was the case and the app was $80, I would pay. Still inexpensive compared to PC or Mac alternative offerings of that caliber.
Some of these big name companies should be able to roll out some outstanding products considering the dev teams they have at their disposal and financial backing for it.
The Yamaha Synth and Dr Pad come to mind here. This is an app with fantastic potential that just falls short with no sample import or true synth architecture, no updates for awhile, etc. I love the drum machine in it and being able to split a pad with two sounds. Has a good soundset, but it stops there because of no updates or not wanting to play with other apps.
C'mon big companies....you can do it! iOS and tablets are great mini studio playgrounds and people want to be able to churn out quality full fledged music on this platform.
This idea of slimmed down software so you have to go back to a big PC or Mac to put out a professional track is the wrong approach. Give us something that we can do it all from first idea to final track export without the need to touch the PC or Mac.
The devs that are putting out apps with this in mind are succeeding. Now with Audiobus and the ability to use our purchases synced together and bussing outputs into multitrack inputs, we are there with easier workflow.
Stop thinking of iDevices as musical sketch pads for getting down quick ideas. They can be so much more. The hardware is similar power to PC's of 8 years ago or so. We were doing professional sounding final mixes on that hardware back then.

@Wormhelmet, you took the words out of my mouth.
There is enough sketchpad apps out there.
In such great days for iOS musicians I will not even "have a look" at an App without Audiobus AND Virtual MIDI, anymore...

Besides fade in/fade out there is also a gain handle on every clip (audio and MIDI).

looks interesting, i think the selling point could lie in the quality of the audio effects and of course midi.
- are the fx parameters midi cc controllable? (eg. filter cutoff can be mapped to cc#10 and so on)
- can you route multiple audio inputs from your audio interface to different channels and monitor them in real time and all at the same time?
if these things are possible, you could use it as a big multi fx / tracking "unit" with midi cc-controllable fx. you could route the separate outputs of your mpc into the ipad and manipulate every incoming track the way you want.
dunno if there's an app, where that's possible atm. auria of course, but no midi support atm, but the effects quality is nice (lots of in-app-purchases).
