Cool stuff! I like those scanning sounds. :)

Hi Fritz,

thanks for the comment. The funny thing is that this preset does not use wave scanning or wave morphing. The movement is done by envelope modulation of the Formant value which in other synths corresponds to the "usual" Cutoff modulation.

Anyway in this case the waveforms do not represent a certain filter so Rayblaster creates a "fantasy filter". Modulation of the Formant (= Cutoff) could lead to drastic changes of the timbre which depends on how complex the waveform is.

Here is a demo of another Rayblaster preset that uses a layer of an analog style sound and a granular style sound based on the Resynthesis feature of RB:

RayBlaster - Hybrid Grains 1

This is a single preset and no external FXs added.

The sample used for the Resynthesis feature was originally created for my commercial "Atmospheric Transients" bank for the PPG wave 3.V (see my signature). It was done using two different synth sounds as modulator and carrier in the Waldorf Lector Vocoder plugin.
The original sample sounds totally different to the result in this Rayblaster preset.

When samples are loaded with the Resynthesis feature some of the controls behave differently. The Formant knob is used for tuning (with filter key follow set to 100%) and the "tune" knob for the Grain density. Morphing/modulation in this preset is done with LFO modulation of the start phase.

Happy new year to everyone,

Ingo

Do we really need your CV everytime you post a sound? Nobody else does it.

The formant control is not a filter in the subtractive sense because it is changing the initial timbre, and not just filtering out some frequencies produced by an oscillator. So it only loosely corresponds to a usual filter cutoff because in certain circumstances it can behave somewhat similar to a low pass filter over a small range.

Thinking of it as some new sort of filter cutoff actually just got in my way when first trying RB.

Yesterday i received a newsletter for the Release of the Futuron expansion for Rayblaster (see my post above). This includes a link to a 20$ discount for ElectraX.
If you are an existing Tone2 customer this could be a nice opportunity to get ElectraX now.

For those who have not recognized the Rayblaster demo contest has a new deadlineat the 13th of January:

http://www.tone2.org/forum/index.php?topic=1361.0

There you could win 250$, 200$ or 100$ to be spent at the Tone2 Online shop. Would be a great opportunity to get Rayblaster and the Futuron expansion very cheap.

Wow. It sounds like something out of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

I guess I need to get DNR Wave Designer to get the most out of RB. :(

Rayblaster review at Waveformless (reply moved from other thread):
Just had a fast read trough. The review does not look bad but i could not agree to the conclusion that you don't need Rayblaster if you already got the other Tone2 synths. I also not totally agree that Rayblaster would be a good synth for starting with Tone2 synths if you do not own one already. For that matter Saurus or ElectraX would be maybe a better choice. I think that Rayblaster and Saurus would be a great combination (BTW the Arp pattern files of those two could be exchanged in most cases with the new v1.1 of Saurus...). Just based on how many presets i have created with them those two synths are so far the most inspiring ones besides my beloved PPG Wave 3.V and the Blofeld.

You'll not find what it's possible to do after just tweaking it for just some hours or just listening to the presets. Even sound designers like me who worked with it for a while now (currently made around 165+ presets) are still discovering new things every week.

Anyway i am too much involved with the synth to give an objective review myself. :)

I've heard that there is a discount for the Wavedesigner software for Rayblaster users. Is this still available and where do i get it?
Is the wavedesigner software worth the money?
Is there also other good software out there where you can create waveforms?

Thanks in advance

Sure it is worth the money. Many of the waveforms contained in the factory content, presets and also as extra content for the new Futuron soundbank were done with it. Also some of my my "wavetables" were done with waveforms based on it. Bastiaan from Tone2 does use it too. Guess why a crossgrade is offered?

So far i got the most interesting results with the formula editor and not so many with the free draw mode (= "node editor").

Anyway for further editing the waveforms a Wave editor could be helpful. I am using Wavelab Elements 7 for working with waveforms and samples. also the "wavetables" were created with it. The "Elements" version is the "light" version of Wavelab which is much cheaper.

Hi guys

I just realized some of my wildest (and favourate) sounds I made for Rayblaster weren't put in the factory content. I might ask tone2 about it but in the meantime this is what you missed:

http://soundcloud.com/aiyn-zahev/raybla ... -brilliant

Maybe it's not your thing haha, but if it is shoot me an email, actually I'll put in a link for a download from my website with the patches that didn't make it, unless tone2 put it in an update if they want them.

But this is absolutely crazy I love what Rayblaster can do with vocal samples. Is there any hardware out there that does this? Does Roland V-synth do this?

I'd love to have a dedicated box that I could just sit there with away from the computer can come up with this stuff!

I made a collection of my Rayblaster audio demos that were spread over some threads. The first 5 demos are new.

Here are a few audio demos of Rayblaster presets'i have created recently.
Those used the Resynthesis feature of Rayblaster and i used my own samples for that (those samples were created for my PPG Wave 3.V soundbank).
The last example uses a layer (for the second oscillator) based on an "analog" waveform.

The audio demos use a single instance of Rayblaster and no external FXs and/or processing have been added:

RayBlaster - Eerie Wavelets

RayBlaster - Glassy Grains

RayBlaster - Granular Lector 1

RayBlaster - WT Scan Pad 1

RayBlaster - Warm & Grainy

Here are two demos created for the Futuron soundset (already published at another thread):

Ingo Weidner - RayBlaster - Futuron Demo 1

Ingo Weidner - Empire Of Rays - Futuron Remix

No external FXs added, also no Compressor. Drums are from FXpansion Geist.

Both use more or less the same presets. The second one is a "remix" of my demo for the Factory sounds.

Demo created with some of my factory sounds (Drum from D16 Drumazon, no external FXs added):

Empire Of Rays - Rayblaster Demo 1

Some older demos (pure Rayblaster, again no external FXs used):

Rayblaster WT Pad Demo 2

RayBlaster - PietWT Pad 1

RayBlaster - JP8 RezSweepPad 2

RayBlaster - Warm Poly6 Pad 1

Rayblaster - Cosy Jupiter Pad 1

The wavefoms that were used for those patches and demos were mostly created by myself. I hardly used waveforms from other sources so far.
