Nov 25, 2012 MenuMagice update (build v1.8.2.30)
MenuMagic is an enhanced plug-in manager for Cakewalk's Sonar Digital Audio Workstations that takes the concept of plug-in management to whole new levels.
MenuMagic Features

Significant update - lots of tweaks, bug fixes, the PIL (Plug-In Limitation) Manager makes its debut, etc.

I was in the process of rewriting the Help content for the next release when I got diverted by other commitments & personal issues.
There are a significant number of enhancements and bug fixes in the new version that I decided that it would be better to release it with the old Help than to sit on it until I had time to finish with the new Help. So I've made it available - just use your personal download link for v2 to get it.

Know issues with this release of the v2 beta:
Help content
  • Screen shots are out of date.
There have been changes in some of the screen layouts (button moved, etc.) also with the Tools tab and Setup/Options tab but you should still be able to figure things out.

The PIL (Plug-In Limit) Manager under the Tools tab
  • Not documented.
You would use this if the number of plug-ins you have exceeds the maximum number that Sonar can handle.
Sonar can handle 735 Synths and 255 instrument plug-ins.
If this situation applies to you drop me a line and I'll send you information.
I'll post some more info & screen shots as soon as I get a chance.
Best regards,
...Steven

Dec 1st, 2012 MenuMagice update (build v1.8.4.0)

Version 1.8.4.0 - new build of the MenuMagic v2 beta has been released!
This update is free to registered users - use your personal link to download the v2 beta.

This is a recommended update.
The majority of effort in this release was aimed at correcting various bugs, issues & annoyances.

A couple of enhancements or other changes did manage to work their way in.
  • New Print Button in Help
Note currently the only print option is to print the whole Help content - all 35+ pages.
  • 5 new skins - in various beta stages for your evaluation.
  • and a variety of minor tweaks & enhancements
Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a number of issues that could plague new installations or upgrades from v1.x to v2 beta
    • Fixed upgrading issues from v1.x to v2 beta
    • Fixed memory leak error that could occur on some systems during registration.
    • Fixed problem that caused crash during registration process on some systems and in some cases corrupted v2 databases.
    • Fixed cause of 'iDing *.dat' error that occurred on some system after installing new version.
  • Fixed problems with Dupe Fixer and PIL Manager modules not refreshing properly when MenuMagic was maximized.
  • Fixed problem that occurred on some systems where program could crash or give message about memory leak when closing MenuMagic after using PIL Manager.
  • Fixed issue that could cause MenuMagic to 'stutter' or flash repeatedly while closing.
  • Fixed error that would occur if you hit Ctrl-F and you had any module other that the Plug-in Info Grid loaded.
  • Fixed issue where if the saved skin had Extended Borders that MenuMagic would load with the Extended Border on even if you had the option turned off.
Know issues with this release of the v2 beta:
Help documentation is always a game of catch up, especially when changes and new features keep bubbling up. I was in the process of rewriting the Help content when but got sidelined by other commitments.

Help content is not in sync with recent program changes in the following ways…
  • Screen shots are out of date.
I just renamed the Tools tab to Modules. None of the Help screens have this change, some still show the v1.x 'Plug-in Info Grid' name.
There have been numerous changes in what is now the Modules tab and Setup/Options tab layouts (and elsewhere) but you should still be able to figure things out.
  • The PIL (Plug-In Limit) Manager under the Tools tab
    Not documented.
You would use this if the number of plug-ins you have exceeds the maximum number that Sonar can handle.
Sonar can handle 735 Synths and 255 instrument plug-ins.
If this situation applies to you drop me a line and I'll send you information.

Jan 20th, 2013 MenuMagice update (build v1.8.6.0)
MenuMagic is an enhanced plug-in manager for Cakewalk's Sonar Digital Audio Workstations that takes the concept of plug-in management to whole new levels.
MenuMagic Features

New build of the MenuMagic v2 beta has been released!
This update is free to registered users - use your personal download link for the v2 beta.

Major Changes in MenuMagic v2 (beta build 1.8.6.0)
  • GUI optimizations
    • Transition fades are now timer controlled for consistent performance regardless of system settings or video card.
Fixes timing issues caused by bug in Windows Vista and Windows 7 where if Aero Glass is disabled the GPU handling of certain tasks is disabled and taken over by the CPU.

While turning Aero Glass off has been promoted by some as a method of improving Windows performance it has a nasty side effect of turning off hardware acceleration for one or more common graphic functions and thereby dumping them on the CPU.
A simple change in AlphaBlend levels (Alpha Channel transparency effect commonly used in program graphics and in Sonar's XRay feature) that would normal take 1/100th of a second or less could take over a 1,000 times longer to complete. For more information please check out the following article on Agitated State's web site:
      Windows' Optimization for your DAW

With MenuMagic the problem was most evident on closing the program while maximized - instead of the 1/5 second or less to do a transition fadeout, on Intel cards the fade was taking over 3 seconds and on NVidia cards the same transition was taking over 12 seconds.
    • Minimizing MenuMagic when Aero Glass is disabled.
See previous issue for cause. If Aero Glass has been disabled - MenuMagic form minimizing transition effects are now disabled.
    • Now remembers* if program was Maximized when closed and remembers program's pre-maximized size & position.
*If MenuMagic Appearance Settings are set to remember program's location & size program.
    • Finalized new skins
      • Black Box
      • Light Board
      • Moonlight
      • NeonNIght (was Terminal4Bit)
      • WOT
    • Various tweaks to either eliminate unnecessary transitions or improve status (for example if waiting for form to finishing loading).
    • Improved Error Handling
  • Fixed problem where Bug handler was not initialized properly in some of the newer MenuMagic modules so if an error occurred details were not being captured.
  • Send Bug Report - on Settings/Options tab
    • Optimized code, new code is about 4x faster (rough guesstamate).
    • Fixed bug where Bug Report window could open up under MenuMagic giving appearance the program had crashed or hung.
    • Fixed problem where if MenuMagic was set to 'Stay on Top' and you tried to Send Bug Report that MenuMagic would minimize to show Bug Report but not restore itself afterward.
    • Modified Bug Report to be more email friendly
      • Fixed problem where if email client was already running MenuMagic could fail to create a Bug Report email message for you to send.
      • Changed format of attached files from tgz (tar) to zip. Attached file is now about 50% smaller.
      • Changed email send address to support@agitatedstate.com. Looks like latest MS Outlook update versions doesn't like BugReport@agitatedstated.com
    • Setting / Options tab fixes
      • Program Appearance
Fixed bug introduced in v1.8.5.0 where skin switcher where when changing skins only previous selection was remembered.
I.E. if you changed skin - original setting was remembered, if you changed skin twice - 1st change was remembered.
    • Modules
      • DupeFixer
Fixed problem with DupeFixer not maximizing properly when MenuMagic was maximized.
        Fixed minor memory leak.
    • And many more…

Mar 24th, 2013 MenuMagice update (build v1.8.7.0)
MenuMagic is an enhanced plug-in manager for Cakewalk's Sonar Digital Audio Workstations that takes the concept of plug-in management to whole new levels.
MenuMagic Features

New build of the MenuMagic v2 beta has been released!
This update is free to registered users - use your personal download link for the v2 beta.

This is a recommended update.
There's been a lot of significant changes in this build as well as a lot of minor tweaks & optimizations.

Major Changes in MenuMagic v2 (beta build 1.8.7.0)
Plug-in32 bit/ 64 bit verification:
  • MenuMagic now verifies the bit level of your plug-ins - checks to see if you 64 bit plug-ins are actually 64 bit, the 32 bits are actually 32 bits, etc..
    • Because some plug-in vendors use the same file names and same VST ID#s for both their 32 & 64 bit plug-ins
    • and because a lot of time plug-in installers aren't programmed to remember where the last version of where their plug-in was installed to..

It is really easy in some cases to accidentally mix up your 32/64 bit plug-ins.
You can use the Plug-in Info Grid and see if you have had this issue.
  • MenuMagic now offers to Fix errors in Sonar's Plug-in database (not MenuMagic database) were some plug-in are miss-identified as being the wrong bit type(I.E. 32 bit identified as 64 bit and vice versa).
Problem occurs when plug-in is changed AFTER the initial time it was scanned.
For example you accidentally install a 32 bit plug-in in your 64bit plug-in folder and catch the problem AFTER you have run Cakewalk's VST Plug-in Scanner. Cakewalk's Scanner will NOT update the plug-in type information unless you check the 'Rescan Existing Plug-ins" option - which can be a major pain.

When MenuMagic is run and scans your system - it catches these errors and now offers to painlessly correct them.
There is no downside to fixing the problem, but still it's you choice.Image
Categorization tab changes:
  • Category dropdown list now resizes to fit your menu name content.
List can show up to 50 items before it wraps, Windows will wrap the list if it's too long for your monitor.

Name Fixes / Menu Creation tab changes:
  • Under the "Suffixes & UnCategorized Plug-in Handling" added
'32' bit suffix (previously only had "64") and a new option to display suffix as either "32" or "(32-bit)"/ "64" or "(64-bit)"ImageHere's an example of how they look in a rendered menu.Image
Plugin-Info Grids changes:
  • New "Vendor Name" column.
  • Fixed bug with the grid inconsistently showing new plug-ins coloration.Image
Program HELP
  • New Search feature - you can now search the help content for words or phrases!
  • Help content updated! - more information, new images, etc.
Due to all the new content and images the install set has increased by about 10meg over the previous build.
Other Changes
  • Form memory
Menu Magic now tries to remember the size of all of its forms.
For example the Sonar Save Menu Layout form now remembers its size form that last time you ran it.
  • Updated the DXSniffer.exe. Should fix the error reported by one of our customers.
  • Modified the Error Handling
Fixed problem where if you got an error - that in some cases you would see the same Bug Report dialog come up 3 times.
  • Fixed a variety of small memory leaks that have been plaguing MenuMagic for the last couple of builds.
Thanks for your patience on this particular issue, this was a major pain to track down.
  • Fixed bug in program hint handling - affected the way that some of the hints displayed.
  • And many more…
