Dear Padshoppers,

I'm happy to announce the release of my new soundset for Padshop Pro:

Image

Cosmic for Padshop Pro focusses on rich cinematic pads, drones, soundscapes, bells, synths and cosmic sound effects mainly derived from electronic sources like Hardware and Software synths and more experimental audio applications like Metasynth and Cosmosƒ, a fascinating program which I discovered recently. These sounds are very usable for genres like Ambient - New Age - Soundtrack and Electronica.

Cosmic contains 82 patches making use of 123 original samples produced in 48 Khz / 24 Bit, with a total sze of 1.59 Gigabyte. All patches have the Modwheel assigned, many use Aftertouch and Velocity to control numerous parameters for deep interaction with the sounds.

Patch categories:
  • Cosmic Bells (eight)
    Cosmic Noises (12)
    Cosmic Pads (17)
    Cosmic Scapes (27)
    Cosmic Sequences (9)
    Cosmic Synths (9)
Sampled Hardware synths:
  • Clavia Nordlead
    Roland D 50
    Korg Z1
You can view/download the PDF for Cosmic with more details, the licence agreement and the patch list including playing tips and short descriptions for each patch here.

All demos in the widget below were produced entirely with Padshop Pro using only patches from Cosmic, no post-processing was applied apart from a Limiter on the Master Outputs. If a demo does use external reverbration, it is mentioned in the track title.

So I just made a video with a quick improvised runthrough of some patches from the category "Cosmic Noises" just using a Midi Keyboard with Modwheel and Aftertouch switching presets on the fly:

This is a vid with the last demo for Cosmic - "Final Departure" - with several instances of PSP playing inside Logic:

Hi Simon

great soundset,as usual :) (i'm iris,tremor & padshop customer of your presets)

do you plan to make some new products presets ?

i have an other question, wich soundcard do you use ? i have to change it in order to use multiple instances of padshop without crackles and big latency

Cheers

Thank's! What do you mean by "new products presets"? You mean the latest synths which have been released? The last thing on the instrument side that was released which really interested me was Padshop Pro, if there will be some new spectacular releases this year I'm sure I'll be one of the first to make a set for it :)

I use RME FF 800 Interfaces in the studio, great pre-amps for mics, very low latency, very reliable. Maybe you should increase the sample buffer size in your DAW when working with several instances of PSP, at least when you're mixing and not tracking/recording Midi.

It's been quiet from me sitting here as I am with headphones locked on to my head, strange whirring buzzings sighs and shudders seeping out at low volume to my surroundings,a secret universe of sound playing out, It seemed to me that everything else just stood still while I explored the many sound cosmos.

What can I say, this is some of the most beautiful work in the soundware department I've ever had a chance to experience first hand. The sound quality, the breadth of material, creative sound design, great performance control with aftertouch, modwheel.

From the moment I loaded up the first sound my ears just went pop, like I'd been wearing earplugs which suddenly popped out. This is High End sound quality here. Everything seems playable and interesting over a wide range from high to low.

This is every space cowboys dream tool box..

I honestly haven't found one dull patch in the whole list..

I'll give a more detailed write up when I return to the surface of planet earth after my Cosmic ride.

Boy am ever glad I got the Padshop Pro instrument at Christmas to play the Patchpool sounds, Granular Worlds, and Droneland, both worthwhile, and now Cosmic takes it all to the next level!

Thanks for your great work Simon!

Thank you for the epic review, Wade, that's a great read in the early morning!

My first published track with Cosmos sounds for Padshop Pro..

http://soundcloud.com/twotoneshuzz/cosm ... -1/s-oA1kI

8 different sounds. I spent time working out a four part harmony then patched the output of the four interval/pitch sequencers to seven mono note sequencers with melodic variation then out to 7 instances of Padshop pro. All done in Numerology Pro captured with master limiting in Audio Hijack pro. Look Maw no Daw! My 4 core 3.1 Ghz i5 iMac could easily handle that load.

Regards

Listening to it now after a night in the studio - very promising Intro - leaving earth - reaching the boundaries of our Galaxy - going beyond - places we have never seen - a strong urge of wanting to go further and further. In the outskirts of the universe mass and density get less and less until...the door to another universe opens...homesickness.

Great sudden changes of atmospheres, this music is not predictable, nice dynamic depth and subtle modulations, much less "in your face" - delicate and very strange. A really good track, Wade!

"Cosmic' evokes everything from Tomita's classic, creamy smooth synthesized Debussy re-compositions to Barry Truax's paradigm-shifting 'Riverrun' granular synthesis pioneering...this set really exploits Padshop's abilities and strengths.

My initial purchase of 'Padshop Pro' stemmed heavily upon hearing Patchpool's plans to create sound design for it ('Granular Worlds'), and this new offering definitely stands on it's own from Granular Worlds excellent explorations and provides a unique sequel...building and expanding on the possibilities of this otherwise low profile granular synth.

In one word...'Musical' ;-) In two, 'get it'! :D

This was a nice review! I've been so immersed in just finding my way around in the Cosmic soundset so it seemed like anytrack making would be some time away but yesterday I pulled the plug on all other demands and turned my attention fully on to making the CosmicKarmany track.

I am very intereseted in sudden changes and unpredictablity, as I feel that with many arrangements and compositions though perfect in design and performance, they lack that other element of chance that is such a big part of why we are all here on planet earth..

When I mix using my automated XY paths there are alot of times where these delicate transistions between fully on and faded fully out give moments of quiet beauty and remind me to really open my ears and listen into the music not just to the music. Listen into the music=active listening.

Thanks again for your comments and the wonderful work that you are doing with Padshop Pro!

Very interesting textural composition, I like the thematic way you composed this, certain textures reappearing through the track, also some more consonant harmonic layering this time which I think is great. Good to witness how you're developing your music and taking much more attention to form and density.
