on my commute home last night, I was listening to a dance channel on Spotify & I found that EVERY tune had the same EFX. If I am to produce anything "pop", I may need to add a model of the following.

1. Autotune and/or VoCorder on vocals(it seems really freaking lame & repetitive words are also key ;=)
2. Some sort of stutter edit on the master track
3. Tape-stop of some sort

Am I missing anything else ?

What are the most common VST for these three EFX ?

hmm without audio examples I'd say

1. Melodyne
2. Do it yourself or try sugerbytes turnado or Izotope stutter edit
3. Varispeed in protools probably, but you can do it in cubase. It's just a pitch drop from what I know of it. there are youtube videos on it just do a search. Not sure what 3rd party plug-in does it but most editors should do it. Used to do things like that in Cool Edit, long ago.

If you do all that you'll only get to the 80's,

the listener has to be really uncomfortable, compressor+ limiter

Imo the key to making a GREAT track is NOT doing what everyone else is doing.
Why use something that has been done to death?
This is what I miss in today's EDM scene: being original.
Create your own sound, be yourself.

But that isn't what the OP was asking for.

Autotune or a MicroKorg Vocoder and Izotope Stutter Edit....

Don't forget all the transition ear candy! All those whooshes, sweeps and rising pitch siren type effects at the end of 16 or 32 bars are a big part of the modern pop sound.

Bruno Mars' "Heaven" and Rihanna's "We Found Love" have great examples of this not-quite-music/not-quite-sound-effects audio MSG.

And don't forget to distort or filter some vocals somewhere for no good reason... All the kids are doing it! :hihi:

"Britney, Bitch!"

Also the usual dubstep wobble shouldn't be missing. :P

event fx are your friend. chop up the last bar every 8.

Oh, and more wibble.

For tape stop, just get the free dblue Tapestop - Simple, lightweight and does the job pretty well.
