I've been meaning for a while to start a thread on sounds and music that inspired us to get more into synths. This is one for me for sure.

The other one is this one: http://www.synthesizers.com/sounds/dreamstate.mp3

In a really big way too.

So share yours too I bet I've heard it and forgot about it.

I should add this one too:

Although it didn't inspire me to get into synths because my that time I was already well buried!

But it's really beautiful.

The one thing that sticks out for me was the album Vegas by the Crystal Method. I was floored. I wanted to be able to make sounds like that. Next was Too Dark Park by Skinny Puppy.

Not exactly synth demos, but these were sounds I heard that I just had to figure out how they do such amazing things with synths. Prior to that era I was somewhat anti synthesizer, guitar only mentality with the exception of bands like Rush, Led Zeppelin and their creative keyboard use in heavy rock.

As soon as I started with some of the early 90s and up electronic genres, I was hooked.

One of the reasons I really love dubstep now. Heavy use of really wild sounds that just feel good to listen to on my ears.

One song that gave me a welcomed schock in my teenage years. Now that I think of it, this is one of the many things that trapped me into synths, and I'm glad I could never free myself :)

Then very quickly came Kraftwerk, TDream, Eurythmics, Steve Wonder, Joe Zawinul, Grace Jones, Kate Bush, Brian Eno, Nina Hagen, Laurie Anderson, and so much other ones. Thanks to them.

Very inspiring demo's indeed. In particular the first one by Dan Lind.

Awesome, really good. I've heard a few demos of the JD-800 that made me want to buy it.

This one makes me want to buy the NL2, though obviously he's got some pretty good post-processing going on there:

<extremely unhip response>

As a wee lad in the late '70s/early '80s the first synthesizer music to capture my ears was Billy Joel's. His synth solos in songs like "Angry Young Man" "All for Leyna" and "Root Beer Rag" really made the tunes exciting, like a great guitar solo.

After that it was Rush's "Moving Pictures" where the synth use on songs like "Tom Sawyer" really made me prick up my ears.

Then Talking Heads' "Remain in Light" turned me on to Brian Eno and sent me down a rabbithole from which I haven't emerged.
