Hi I'm new here and to producing electronic music. I love the music and have a passion for it. I feel like it touches my soul every time I listen to it and have decided I want to be a significant part of it. I was introduced to this forum by a friend. He says its great so I was wondering if anyone of you could help me find a tutorial for very basic beginners. I have Fl Studio and a Midi. I have lots of time on my hands and really want to devote myself to this. I'd really appreciate any help. Thank you :help: :help:

I like those: http://www.boyinaband.com/tutorials/7-d ... tutorials/

They are made with Reason, but they give a nice overview of the basic ingredients and production techniques of several genres. Plus Dave is fun to listen to.

Hi ryan2534, nice to meet you :)
When I read those words I saw myself in it. I'm a music lover too and every time that I listen to it is a magic moment.

I just started to pratice in music production some days ago, and I can tell you that YouTube is full of video-tutorials about FL Studio. You just have to search on it :)
I hope that will be helpful to you :)

ok ill chime in here with a different kind of advice.

im not saying you would do this, but many people do...

do not go crazy buying lots of synths and plug ins, there are tons and tons of free vsts out there, more than enough for anyone, but especially for people starting out. no need to go directly into the poor house :D

you can start here (there are others as well): http://vstplanet.com/

learn your software firstthing. recognizing all the tools you have at your disposal already can prevent future plugin lust. This website has tutorials specific to FL so you might want to give them a shot

vaisnava:Bee-Berp, that does not compute, your post exceeded the 4x4 parameters, Bee-Berp

Hi Ryan,

you already know the music that you like. Isolate the sections that you like and glue them together in a different way.
No need to program single sounds.
Focus first on the tool you have, in this case flstudio, so you don't have to think about a function you want to use. Let it become second nature.
Isolate sections by cutting then using low and highpass filters. Rearrange.
Finish a remix first before starting something new.
You will learn most by finishing a project.
If you want to invest later on, first spend something in acoustic room treatment. Then on speakers, then on gear.
Music is done by listening. Frequencies are produced and through our ear our brain transforms these frequencies into music. So whoever listens music is already a musician.
Keep that in mind.

Thank you for all your help. All of you have been amazing. To be honest when I think of a forum site, I think of mean people but all you are amazing. I'm starting on a project and will be hopefully have it done soon. Couldn't have done it without your help. Thank you

ok just some recommendations for free vst

u he tyrell . sounds good, covers all basic sounds
synth1. sounds ok , but there are many user presets for all electronic styles + has a nice arp!!(which is important for some electronic genres)
tal noisemaker. sounds good, less cpu hit than tyrell.

free fm synths.

de la mancha ( just go to their website)
odosynths doublesix

green oak crystal ( more semi modular+ not exactly fm)
( as thename implies it sounds crystal clear;-)

then you could add the free alchemy player.... and thats more than enough to make music with.

for free drumsynths, fx etc. just go to the vst4free website. ( but with flstudio you already have a very nice step sequencer)

I'd agree with the others. Don't reply on books soley, but just get stuck in, pressing buttons and twisting knobs. If you get stuck you can always turn to youtube, or here ofcourse :)

Talking of free VSTi's try u-he's Podolski http://www.u-he.com/cms/podolski as well. In fact check out the mighty Zebra demo whilst you are there, something for the future perhaps?

Hello by the way! I'm also new round here. Don't forget to post your tracks over at the Music Cafe.
