Hi all
Can someone recommend a resonably priced vst plugin with a fair library of bass gtr samples (eg fender prececision,Rickenbacker..picked,slap etc) be it
wav or Sf's which also gives you some control over dynamics tone etc.
Also is there a vst that offers/simulates different amp heads and cabinets
for bass samples etc?
any help would be appreciated

Lyrical Distortion and Wavesfactory both make decent and inexpensive bass libraries.

the old free version may not work boots successfully on new generations of computers, instruments, and hardware

Hi all

Thanks for the input.
What I'm wondering is, if I use say Scarbee-mm-bass with Kontakt
can I also feed this into say an Ampeg SVT plugin, or can I only
use a bass guitar for the Ampeg plugin.
Im thinking this would give me greater tonal flexibilty etc.
And finally if I do use a bass guitar for the Ampeg SVT I assume the
bass guitar would have to be of good quality in the first place....no??
sorry if I'm a bit vague or ill informed but I'm a bit of a newbie....

Again any help would be appreciated

cheers

Depends on the samples you use.

If the Kontakt instrument already has an Amp/Cab on it, then there's no use in shooting them through another one.

But if the Kontakt instrument is DI-only (like the not-amped NI Pre-Bass) then the Ampeg VST will only "see" the same signal as it would if you recorded a bass guitar.

Again, depends on the instrument.

When I recorded my last band's album, the bassist had a fairly decent mid-range Warwick Rockbass, and that sounded like sh*t. I started out with a no-name 120€ piece of carp, but apart from having a little bell-ish, "ringing" timbre, it actually produced a quite usable sound. Now I have an higher-mid-range active Ibanez BTB470, and that just blows me away.

So... you'll have to try - or just be lucky. :)

BTW, for in-the-box Bass processing, try not using an Amp/Cabinet sim at all. Just slightly shape the DI signal with an EQ to fit your mix, and send the pre-EQ signal to another track where you do a severe low-cut that might start as far up as 800 to 1k Hz, and crush that signal through a distortion unit. You'll be surprised. :)
I don't work here, I just feed the trolls.

my personal opinion is that the built-in amp sim (and the filters) in kontakt is just "okayish". you can find better plugins if you look around a bit.

chokehold: nice trick with the distortion :)

For E-Bass I often use the Cherry Electric Bass

For bass Amp I use

1: Vandal (I use the free Vandal SE version from the Beat Mag)
Sasha Eversmeier who coded this thing is a Bass Player.
For me the best Bass Amp plug.

Also very good sounding Virtual Bassamp

Yes this is possible.

In the DAW you are using, you load Kontakt as a VST instrument, and Ampeg SVX as a VSTi effect.

And if you want a free effect rack, have a look Guitar Rig 5, also by NI:

I should mention that there are a couple of bass amps and effects in the free Amplitube Free, and you can add more amps, cabs, and effects piecemeal through the Amplitube Custom Shop.

The new scarbee rickenbacker for kontakt, sounds awesome.
It has built in ampsims/ cabinets, and efx, that sound awesome.
Trillian sounds good and has built in efx, amps and cabinets.

Hi all
Txs again for your quick resonses
To begin with I have been successful using my Kontakt 5 player as a DAW plugin as well as having the free NI Guitar rig 5 as an effect plugin (as suggested by Numanoid txs)it gives me a lot more scope with just one bass file, one which at the moment happens to be Bad bassist (txs straybloom pretty good for 11 bucks!) I intend to upgrade to Guitar 5 Pro which will give me a comprehensive range of amps and cabinets etc. This should cover a lot
of ground regarding guitars/bass.( but I will need windows 7....I still have good old XP...)
I will include some Scarbee plugins they sound terrific as well as checkout all the Bass Amp freebies you have suggested and finally not being lazy and playing round with filters etc!
Once again txs for you input.

I would recommend Shreddage Bass (Zircon should just consider me part of the dev team as a promoter :hihi: ) even though it is only picked and one bass guitar. However I believe he said he had plans to expand the library. It's the most versatile and it can even be played at 200bpm without sounding fake!
