I just got Peavey Revalver SE (bundled with Addictive Drums). It's kinda nice.

It got me thinking..

My current virtual tools have been around a while:

Pod 2.2,
Line 6 Amp Farm (ver 1),
Guitar Rig 4.

Maybe it's time to upgrade. Which ones should be on my short list?

I'm looking for excellent quality clean to medium overdriven amp simulation.

i actually like pod farm 2.5 a fair bit, i demoed it fully, but a little out of my range, but the $99 is good value..

Amp farm is the Pro Tools one yes? Similar to pod farm?

GR 4 is still pretty good ! 5 is better, but 4 is not bad by any means.

I can suggest to try amplitube, and the softube ones!

Cheers

The first thing to check out since I believe it's still at an unreal price is this

http://www.recabi.net/

At 20 bucks it's indispensable. The demo I think is one of those where the sound cuts out every so often, which I hate, but at least you see if it works on your system. I think it will spice up GR or other amp sims, imho.

Then there are freebies (well, donate ware) to try

There is also lepou, but that is not x64 iirc

Lot's to explore!

Scuffham Amps S-Gear first... then some Amplitube 3 models, like fender, soldano, etc....
You need to limit that rez, bro.

Omg, the "cream" is awesome! Man, that cab might be better than the recabinet!

For free I would strongly suggest Ignite Amp's Anvil, it is great for clean and overdriven sounds (and you can get great hi-gain lead sounds from it too). It doesn't have cab emulation so you need another plugin for that, something like LePou's LeCab2 that uses impulses. There are lots of good free impulses around the net like God's Cab impulse pack.

TSE has great tubescreamer OD pedal emulator if you ever have a need for one.

Then again, if you want to spend some cash, I think Scuffham Amp's S-Gear fits your description perfectly. It is really an amazing amp sim. Soundwise it leaves stuff like Amplitube to dust, IMHO. It doesn't have bell and whistles but then again, the net is full of those :)

Scuffham S-Gear, definitively !!!

Also take look at the TH-2, Peavey Revalver and Guitar Rig ...

A lot of good stuff, but S-Gear is in its own league IMHO!

This :) Try the free version and there's plenty of other gear available. Obviously I think it is great, but I have thought AmplITube was great for years before I was with IK. http://www.amplitube.com (the free version is definitely worth a try - nothing lost to try for free).

Amplitube free and then use the custom shop to trial the popular gear. The Soldano and Slash gear is very nice. It's got blue and brown sound :)
