Post

Hi,

Welcome everyone to:
Compose a song/track using only the free presets from Padsheaven2:

http://sound.artenuovo.com/padsheaven2.html

download 8 free patches.

Just 8 presets, but with controllers tweaked and musical imaginations there is much more than 8 colors.
Because no bass and drum sounds in the free set,
it's allowed to add a drum loop/ indiviual drum hits.

Two weeks for composing, arranging and mixing (from 1. of May to 14 of May)

Please don't make the tracks public before 14. of May.
Send/email the tracks (nickname/trackname) to the same website "contact us":
http://sound.artenuovo.com/padsheaven2.html

I will upload all the ready tracks to a soundcloud site and give a link to this tread too. Then all of us have a week to listen and choose the favorites with votes. (vote for the first 3 - 1 time vote/person/week)

-No vote for yourself.
-You have to vote for others tracks to be eligible for prizes.
-Forum members also allowed to vote:

3 points, (trackname)for the 1.place,
2 points, (trackname)for the 2.place,
1 points (trackname)for the 3.place.

The count will end on 21. of May. 24 hour KVR Time.

The first 3 participant with the most votes will win the
Padsheaven2 soundset.

Cheers, :)
Joseph

Glad you are in Irion! :)

I'v got a question from S1gnsOfL1fe from ambientonline.org forum and copying here, for more info about the contest.
Hi Joseph,

Sounds like an awesome contest! I will definitely participate. Already downloaded the 8 presets and have them loaded into Zebra 2. They sound great!!!

I have a question about the contest...

When you say "controllers tweaked" does that mean we can only tweak the "performance" controls on the preset or we can tweak ANY knob in the preset, which would change the preset entirely?

Looking forward to the contest!

Cheers,

-S1gns

p.s. Even if I don't win, I'm still going to buy your new soundset. I've always been a fan of Padsheaven 1 and judging by how these 8 presets sound, Padsheaven 2 be an instant buy for sure.
Post

Thank You S1gns! :)

Even i would say: presets are for tweaking,
for this contest lets stay: use the assigned controllers. (XY pads, Mw, Pb, Breath, Xpress, At, Vel.)

So NOT ANY knob, which would change the preset entirely.
(I was tending to allow little tweaks around, but then the rules would be out of control)

But you can change the FX section as you needed for the track. (Delay, Reverb, Chorus times, depth, EQ)

Cheers, :)
Joseph

Don't 100% sure if I'm in, but I glad that I tryed demo presets. I was intending to buy this soundset in any case, but now I am obsessed.

Sorry for being boring, I have some questions about the rules.

Drum loop is allowed - can you elaborate? I've never used drum loops, but from that I have seen - it is basically one 4/4 bar of rhythmical pattern. So I can't use my own drums, especially with changing patterns and longer than 4/4?

And can I use external FX? And mixing and mastering processing?

Post

Yes, you can use your own drums and external Fx for mixing and mastering.
My point was with dromloops to be simple, so don't overuse them.
In other words: the main actors should be the synth presets, not the drums.

Post

Already finished my track.
I will sort the last things and send it to you via mail tomorrow or past.
The sounds were inspiring as you can see.

Just used a drumloop and 8 instances of Zebra, each one for each sound in the free pack.
Lots of automations.
Mastering.

Have a nice day and good luck everyone :)

the most plays? wouldn't it be better to make some artistic decisions? for example, person A makes a great demo, but person B has more friends play his song...

i just think, since you're selling a soundset that has it's value in it's quality, that your winners should also be chosen by quality (over quantity).

just a thought...

A good thought fisherKing!
Then we should make our voting here
In this forum. :tu:

How it is usual in one synth
Challenge? Everyone will vote on all track,
except his own piece?

@Irion Glad you are ready, But no need to
Hurry. We still have a lot of time. :)

We usually vote in OSC this way.

5 points for the first place.
4 points for the second place.
3 points for the third place.
2 points for the fourth place.
1 point for the fifth place.

·In case of tie scores, we separate winners by amount of 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 there are.
·No vote for yourself.
·You have to vote for others tracks to be eligible for prizes.

In case we don't use too many tracks in this contest, we could use just 3, 2 and 1 points for only the first three places. Just a suggestion.

·Another idea would be that you could run a vote by yourself, you are the creator of the soundset, you could be the only judge for this and decide how good participants did it. For instance.

·Another idea, you could have a judge friends/community, so all of you listen to the tracks secretly, talk and decide between all of you and set the final voting.

Many ways to do this.
You decide it.

Have a nice day :)

Thanks for the helpful insights Irion!

I hope there will be many tracks, but we can use 3, 2 and 1 points for only the first three places.

·No vote for yourself.

- Great.

I don't understand this:
·In case of tie scores, we separate winners by amount of 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 there are.
- Can you explain how that works?

- It's feeding my ego very well :hihi: - maybe i can use it in case of tie scores.

:)

PS: The first track has already arrived. Cool. 8)

Sure.

I just forgot that anyone can set votes, but in OSC anyone with enough number of posts (antiquity of belonging in the forum) can set their votes.

For example, imagine that there is a tie between two participants.

Participant A gets 8 points in total, which have been added by 3 + 2 + 2 + 1 (the scores from other participants/voters)
Participant B gets 8 points too, which have been added by 3 + 3 + 2 (from other participants/voters)

How to fix this? Easy, the participant B wins because he got a 3 twice in the score, and the participant A only got one 3.
This is the way we are sorting ties.

Also to make sure people votes in the correct day before the deadline, we use the KVR clock rule.
  • ·KVR time is the time we use for deadlines etc. It is the basically the clock on the KVR forum.

·To see the KVR time, log out of KVR so that you don't get your local adjusted time and then go to the main forum page.

·The official KVR time can then be seen on top of the page like shown here:

I hope i explained myself correctly.
Have a nice day. :)

Thanks again Irion! :)

This contest is running on other forums too (VI control, ambientonline)
while most of the guys have account here on KVR, i would not like to
rule out someone with not enough post on KVR forum.

So anyone sending tracks for the contest will be allowed to vote also.
I will edit the first post to reflect the changed rules.

One week left still for making new tracks.
Good luck! :)

Post

I just tried myself to put a track together from the 8 free presets.
I'm not in the contest so i can show it 4 days before the deadline.

Might be inspirational for someone who is not ready yet.
