MuLab Free, LMMS, Ableton Live Lite (if you find someone with a license)...
(There are some more but I cannot recommend something old like KRISTAL audio engine or similar things...Dark Wave Studio cannot convince me, either.)
If you invest some cheap bucks, there would be REAPER, Podium, Mixcraft and EnergyXT...
...and Ardour if you're on Mac, and Rosegarden if you're on Linux...

You can also use Reaper version 0.999 This is an old version but completely free to use. It allows unlimited tracks as vell as VST plugin support.
Download it here: http://www.reaper.fm/files/0.x/reaper0999-install.exe

Or you could use the full functional demo version of the current REAPER and pay the $60 as soon as you have them...Optimax wrote:You can also use Reaper version 0.999 This is an old version but completely free to use. It allows unlimited tracks as vell as VST plugin support.

I have heard people saying that you can still use Reaper even after the demo/trial period has ended. Is it true?Tricky-Loops wrote:Or you could use the full functional demo version of the current REAPER and pay the $60 as soon as you have them...

AngryRedPlanet's Temper is worth a look. It's wonderful for free. (full unlimited DAW, messing wiring though)
Also:
LMMS (open source old-style fruity loops clone)
Modplug (fully featured tracker)
Wavosaur (throw vst effects on a recording)
Savihost (host for live playing/trying out a vst)
MuLab Free (full 4track DAW)
Samplitube Silver (full 8track DAW)
Podium Free (full DAW, make a startup template project to make things easier)
Krystal (old but might be good for mastering; no vsti support only vst)

That's why it's called reaper...chk071 wrote:No. It will self destruct and explode your computer after the trial period has ended.
(Of course you can use it some days more but if you like it, you'll have to pay $60 for it, that's why the price is quite low compared to Cubase & Co...)

Reaper for $60? Seems like a very cheap price for a DAW. But anyways, I'm going to stay with my FL Studio DAW. I've been using it for 6 years and it's easier for me to work with it rather than Reaper.Tricky-Loops wrote:That's why it's called reaper...

We have a database for that. You can query on type (effect or host or...) and price.
http://www.kvraudio.com/q.php?search=1&ty[]=h&pr[]=f
It lists 100 items, so your query needs a bit more refinement.

We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.
