Dear friends.

Back in 2011 we had a charity fund raising here on the forum of KVR Audio. Through software donations from nearly 40 developers in the sound industry we raised $8712 for Save the Children. Last year the charity was repeated, this time 62 companies contributed and we raised $15211 for Save the Children. 2012 also saw donations of hardware from companies as Moog, Propellerheads and Native Instruments to name a few. The funds were raised through charity auctions and the diploma's we received can be seen below:

This year, I have set a very ambitious goal: To break the 20k barrier, to raise $20000 for the children.

The funds will once again go to Save the Children and they will be marked to the Emergency Fund for the Syrian children. I guess we all have seen pictures of the tragedy with chemical strikes and children as the innocent victims.

More than one million children have fled the Syrian war to neighboring countries. Inside Syria, more than three million children need urgent assistance. Save the Children is on the ground, providing much-needed relief, in a war where over 100.000 people has been killed - 7000 of them being children.

Can individuals not donate money?

I don't see the option there. It just seems to be for companies.

I'm quite skint but would be happy to donate five dollars or euros or pounds or whatever to the cause.

Is there a certain way to pay? A certain currency you prefer. I donated to you before but I can't remember how, or how much.

Not all of us want to mess about with selling/buying stuff. Giving money to you is much easier. And seeing as we trust you Luftrum and you have done it before, there should not be too many questions.



What about a big 'no brainer' pot, where if you contribute to it and the level is reached, people get a certain reward - sound banks/presets. That way, it would be little effort on your part and little risk. If you don't get the sufficient amount to make it worth while, then people get nothing but knowing that they contributed. Which should be enough for anyone if they have any morals. Everything else is a bonus. That way, even us poor folk can contribute and not feel guilty, if you understand the politics and dynamics of giving.

You do know you could make a million doing this don't you, but the standard reasons of politics and guilt, preclude this?

Just ideas.

But at least if you are going to ignore them, please provide a little pot for us peasants just to put a few coins into.

Yeah. That way everyone can give a few bucks and be pretty much guaranteed to get something back, therefore enticing them more to give something in the first place. (Sorry, human nature)

If the goal is not met, then we collectively hang our heads in shame, know that we did our best and gave what we could, that it went to a good place, and hey, better luck next time. No bitching 'bout this one.

If it does reach target - happy days! We get a little return on our meager investment. Luftrum seems to be giving so much away in the first place. A sound designer whose work I love and have bought. Maybe there is another way of balancing things that would entice more in.

I've pledged five bucks for nothing. But I'd double that to be put into the lottery. Just for kicks.

Sort of group buy, but only if you reach a certain amount. If the whole amount is not reached, those that contribute 'lose' their installment - but it's all going to a good cause. More incentive for others to give (because they can see that others have already stumped up the cash, and for little risk they can also reap the benefits).

There has been studies done on this and this particular model, but I forget what they are right now. It's pretty common sense anyway. We don't need to gamble. We will all give you something just for a meager return. And if that return is some presets by Luftrum, then it's not so meager after all. Loads of people would join in. It's just a parallel way of contributing.

But anyway, I'll give my free sample pack that I gave out to a few dozen select people - it is about half a gig in size and covers stuff from guitar/bass/vox/loops/FX. And anyone that even enters the 'Pot' competition can have a copy on top of any other prizes they might win.

Or Luftrum, you can just have it anyway and use it how you see fit. This is your donation drive and I give that to you for you to use however you want. I'm just thinking out loud, which is always a good sign for me to shut up.

Well this is a fundraiser with prizes involved.. it seems the goal is to entice people into spending their money on the items they want in order to get their money to add to the fundraiser. So the charity part is largely blind to the donations part.. the only thing the charity part adds to the part of the bidder is the notion that it really is for a charity and so they might give a little more than normal. But I wouldn't expect it or get upset with anyone who doesn't!

True donation is when something is given without asking for anything in return.. I think the software and sound design houses are the true donators here.. as is Luftrum for managing this fundraiser! As well as codec_spurt and anyone else who simply passes what they can give along without getting anything back.

so in these cases, I wouldn't get too upset with people looking to get a lot out of it for themselves.. not to say these fundraisers are bad things.. on the contrary! The money that is going to these children will be well received and likely well invested in real people in need!

However, Just like the Water soundbank/charity event Camel Audio recently had, why get upset with someone when they only want to give a few dollars? It wasn't from the heart in the first place from anyone who wanted the soundbank they were getting in return!

Anyways I only bring this up in hopes that we are all nice to one another and this doesn't end up an angry fest of people calling other people ugly names or the sort. If I remember correctly, last year had a few testy moments..

I like the idea of the 'no brainer' pot as long as it doesn't involve me distributing anything. Maybe everything in the pot could be uploaded to some sort of cloud hosting and the link shared to everyone participating, if the target is reached.
