I understand (after all it was named "Controller Synthesizer" for a reason). But that part cannot be made in software. It's up to the users to get a proper controller (I am thinking in some that could do the job, including the ribbon controller).

The "weird ring modulator" should be included, of course, and, IMO, would be a tremendous add-on for DIVA. It could be included as an effect, or a new pane in the lower part of DIVA, maybe.

Regarding the other components, I don't believe you think they are really "THAT" boring

Of course they are oscillators, like we (do not) already have, filters like we (do not) already have, envelopes like (I think we do not) already have.

Anyway, as I already stated, I am happy with what I already have now. Before DIVA, I didn't even think I could have a "mix'n match" analogue "frankenstein" :hihi:

Indeed, CS80 envelopes are great, having Initial Level and Attack Level parameters.

What so special about it's keybed?

I bet that would be true when comparing old MS-20 vs new, new sounds more edgy, hence more punchy.
Another factor to bear in mind if you are modulating filter and hence envelope doesn't sound as fast as on other synths is 0DF
You could be used to softsynths behavior, that's 1df and that's a "law" to you and smooth resonant transition is not something you expect and you don't like it and perceive it as less "punchy" attacks.
That would be true for most who first started to mess with synthesizers on computers.

Here's an example, first is 1DF, second 0DF

Wow, these U-He discussions can sure move fast!

You have a good point...the Roland oscillators can produce a really snappy transient attack as compared to the Moog oscillators in DIVA.

What so special about it's keybed?

It's like a very light acoustic piano, including great repetition. You can tap a key and it will carry on moving downwards - can't do that on a typical Fatar.

Wow, for soooo long I've wanted to sit down and play one. I had the opportunity years ago in a music store, and for some reason I didn't play it...I think maybe it wasn't plugged into a monitor.

I do hope the future brings new developments in controller tech. It has always been the neglected child, but I suppose there's a market reason for the lack of quality instrument manufacture. Not that there's been no new development, just not the type I think is most needed :hihi:

I think your desire to "sit down and play one" has nothing to do with the keyboard mechanics (which apparently you were not even aware).

It's all about the sound, isn't it?

That said, I too agree that the controller world has seen better days.

Actually it had a lot to do with the keyboard - I knew it had polyphonic aftertouch of a legendary quality, at least the way it interacted with the sound patches. So it had to do with the combination of that plus the unique sound, which I have been listening to on classic records for over 30 years I guess.
