Baring that in mind, as I was saying, it's better for the developer - big or small - to try to continue to encourage customer loyalty, because using restrictive methods to undermine your actual legitimate customers doesn't do anything but harm your customers and make piracy look that much more attractive.
I think that in the last 7 years we have made piracy less attractive than buying a legit version.

First we've made keygens impossible, then we've created delayed checks that no cracker team has ever found and recently we've also introduced a method that turns users of leaked serial numbers into paying customers. All without "calling home" or any other intrusive methods. Plain old serial number, and a lot of out-of-the-box thinking.

The result is, we've seen various videos like the one discussed here. Popular guys using lots of cracks. Whenever a u-he product was visible, it was a legit license. They buy our stuff because they know.

Our next step in anti piracy is thus educating other developers in full depth, i.e. open source our method (which, funnily, doesn't help cracking it) :clown:

Urs, I applaud your efforts. Seeing other developers adopt your methods can't happen soon enough.

Soooo deserved.
Imo, aside from all the innovative/amazing/epic dsp work, U-he/Urs have had a real effect on both sides of the piracy issue, and definitely pushed it a few inches in the right direction.
Its a rare thing afaik. The gap is rarely bridged by an honest message that all sides appreciate.

So now we just have to worry about Urs licensing that protection method out and retiring before he can do Zebra9. :P

Super-Urs will win against piracy! Because under the hood of the Zebra is the tiger! :tu:

Savant In The Studio With Future Music

So, I commented on the pirated software in the video and Savant commented back.

My reply:
Officer? No. Just someone who believes developers should get paid for their hard work. On Future Music you set an example young producers follow. Nothing wrong with paying people for their efforts. Glad you finally bought the plugins :)
So, yeah. I'm the bad guy.

To look like a real pirate, Savant needs some sun glasses and gold chains...

No, I won't accept any of the execuses thistime. I was a kid too, I've never made a buck by music and yet legalized all my software. He plays on the biggest EDM events in the world right now and has no time or money or what the f*ck ever to buy a Sylenth license? No. This is bull***t.

...he even attends a high school for producers. That's what they teach them? Show off illegal behaviour publically?

...and hey, Lennard, are you going to give all those artists with stolen Sylenths to your kudos section (once you make one) on the webpage? ...so well behaved people can pay for your x years old plugin while other people just steal it and build a succesful career with it?

No bigger VST developers interested in investiating this? Hm? IL, NI, Ableton, nobody? Not even few courious public e-mails that cost nothing?

I swear nothing gets me as angry as this does. ...as much as I love EDM and as I admire how this kid can rule the world with track like this, this makes me really angry. Your thoughts?

I think this shows a new level of GREED.
Pay nothing for your software, EVEN when you can clearly afford to pay for it.
He should be boycotted.

Not only does this guy seem to be a thieving douchebag but he's also a liar. Bill calls him out, so instead of doing a little blush and confronting the issue to do some good PR and some damage control, and maybe even contacting Ohm Force with an apology, he comes comes up with some arrogant bullcrap response and then lies and says this was from a while ago and he made it right a long time ago. I don't know if FM would sit on that interview for as long as this guy was trying to make it out to be. The video was posted freakin' 5 days ago!!!! The tone seemed to be that Bill was some idiot that had no right to notice the Team Air Ohmicide, let alone comment on it. I guess this guy thinks he's God or something. It's f'ing crazy.

Holy shit!!! Reading your post puts things in a different light!!! You might be on to something here. Maybe I missed the fact that this is the future and there's nothing we can do about it except roll with it because there is a behavioral trend of which at one time was unthinkable but now there are forces of fate working around us stating that it is an accepted practice in this day and age. Hell we don't see Orange Force or any of those guys on here bitching about it. But yet I'm ready to take up arms against this guy who represents the future. Maybe he's right and I'm wrong. Maybe all these successful cracked software using producers are the hip futuristic forward thinking leaders of tomorrow, and me the knight in shining armor with morals has been made into the dinosaur by way of changes around us that I refused to see. Thank you tee three tee succeeded by four o's. You have aligned my thinking with your purest form of logic which I embarrassingly overlooked. I bid you all farewell from this thread for I Sir Orbit-50 bow to the future of change. I will say no more on this subject.
