Sometimes I compose with my laptop internal soundcard and I need to use ASIO4ALL to get adequate latency.

The problem is that always when you connect DAW to ASIO4ALL driver you cannot use windows audio driver.

In other words always when my DAW is on I cannot use Youtube, other Chrome stuff, Mediamonkey media player, VLC media player, etc..etc...

Is there any solution for this (except for closing DAW or disabling ASIO4ALL from DAW settings menu)...?

I do need youtube and media player together with DAW...

I guess you are on windows 7 ?

Then you are screwed.

I'm on 7, and the only way to use winamp/youtube/Daw etc together is by NOT using asio4all :(

See here : http://mtippach.proboards.com/thread/2293

It was a big disappointment when I switched from XP to 7.

There are some addon drivers that help with this. Check out:

Seems too heavy of a solution and a bit too expensive for such a small thing (because I wouldn't use its additional features)

There must be a way to configure ASIO4ALL in such way that you can use windows sound driver... at least I hope so :)

If your daw supports Wasapi, set it to shared mode.

Maybe on of those cheap USB sound cards and set it as a second output in ASIO4ALL...

I had started a similar thread here http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 8#p5643278 . I read the golemus thread but unless I missed something I did not find a solution to my problem of being able to have audio on a DAW and simultaneously Youtube, other Chrome stuff, Mediamonkey media player, VLC media player, etc.

Please help :help:

I swear I remember doing this using the newest version of asio4all by going into the settings section and making a composite driver by expanding the I/O selections in the left window, then activating the correct drivers on the input side. Sorry I can't do a step by step at the moment.

Sadly it's not such a small thing. I developed the ASIO Link Driver because what you are trying to do simply is not doable. ASIO bypasses WDM completely and no ASIO driver will "mix in" WDM (windows) audio without my driver or something similar.

Also, I'm not sure my driver is that expensive... Most audio tools like this are far more expensive.

WASAPI has non exclusive mode. I don't know it's doable in asio4all.
