I'm using a macbook pro 2.6 Ghz i7 Quadcore with 16gb ram. Last year's model.

The aero pad, playing a five note chord, shows around 25% in Ableton's meter when it's the only thing loaded. I guess that's not completely unreasonable compared to some others. What really surprised me was that many mono patches could show about 15%. Typically mono patches are more efficient than that and there's a bigger discrepancy with poly patches.

Ok, so I tried the latest Spire release again. Again, it has very good sound but still way to high CPU for the sound it produces.

For example, when I compare Spire LD - X-Lead to Sylenth1 LD - Follow in Cubase 7.5 OS10.9
Spire LD - X-Lead Average load - 23% - 30% peak
Sylenth1 LD - Follow - 6% Average load - 8% Peak

and Spire has greater max spike than Sylenth1

No reason to switch to Spire yet...

Why switch? Get both. :tu:

Spire CPU use is very low. I run 6 tracks of spire for 15% total CPU usage, in Ableton, on a 3 year old laptop. Complainers just have very bad computers.

pc? on a mac, spire is very demanding...i can run several instances, but some pads for example will cause logic to start trippin'... (not a complainer, just a reporter...) :D

Fair enough. I'm on PC (low-mid sandy bridge i7). I should admit that I don't use a lot of pads and a lot of my tracks are mono synths. So easy for me to say, maybe.

Not on a mac. I see similar performance as C-note. I've got last years model of macbook pro. i7 quad core 2.6 ghz. I don't think it's a bad computer.

but dude...TWO days since i posted...

spire really is cranky on a mac; i can use 2 instances, before everything starts glitching, stuttering (altho sometimes that sounds just right....)

2 days aren`t long :D there will be ~90 patches, during the sounddesign time with Spire, i really start to valuate this synthesizer. I my eyes the slowly coming replacement for Sylenth1...

I hadn`t also not big cpu problems with the latest version with my old quadcore cpu, just the instance count on 32bit OS with Cubase 7 was a problem, sometimes 5 instances max, sometimes 2.... always to split a single demo part into 3 Cubase project files
