Maybe that's how we should mix from now on--next time I pull up next to that kid, I'll hand him my track and ask him to play it. :-D

Exactly. I have no idea, what was the point to exaggerate lows so much. Btw the album is rated 4.5/5 on discogs and has 4 392 862 plays on last.fm. Makes you think.

Anyway, it sounds muffled and distorted due to overlimiting and there is too much sub indeed, but not as much as I expected by your description. However, it sounds like cr*p. errrrrr I just threw a look on my VU meter, it doesn't move at all! wtf? Is it broken?

edit: I played some good old Depeche Mode from 1990 and the VU meter works just fine. :hihi:
What's wrong with naked woman? :hihi: It's a pop, not porn after all. :ud:

However it's not much remain to degrade to these limits, because modern pop music is absolutely awful. It was good in 90s, what's happened in minds of masses since then, why they consume such shit? However, I like vocals, but mixing is ridiculous.

Wanna say that firstly for a few years I've listened pop compilation with overtop 100 songs. And this song was among them. What catched my year, not that how they were compressed, most of them were bricklimited like that (to hell), but THIS ridiculous bass.

LOLWHAT? How much is total overkill in your opinion? From commercial tracks of course. This one is just bassiest I've heard! :o

The bass frequencies down to around 80Hz are alright [interesting, that's usually the crossover frequency for the sub speaker], but from there downwards it sounds rather ridiculous, especially around 50Hz. That's why the bass range sounds so strange and "bloated" and it also contributes to the song being perceived as muffled and the lack of any transients whatsoever certainly contributes to this impression as it's also so overlimited. It would probably sound better with a 2-pole high pass filter at 80Hz...

I just tried listening to it with a 2-pole butterworth HPF@80hz, not so bad any more. But it takes away too much from the kick bass frequencies. It's just that the bass is mixed completely wrong. Those 50-60Hz on the bass sound are killing the whole mix. In short, absolutely krap job. :D

Yup, totally agree, man. But I'm wondering why it was made like that? It's obviously was intended. Can't believe that high budget studio with top engineers can do this by mistake for extremely costy album. So, why this was made, what for? Optimized for some shitty devices with lack of bass? :scared:

Sounds bass-heavy on my HD80Pros. Sounds like rattly shit on my laptop speakers.

Meh. Full disclosure: I'm am ambient musician, so through most of this track I wanted to hit it with Camelspace and Replicant.. :hihi: :hihi:

There's actually some decent pop music coming out of Mad Decent.

I believe the girl's name is Elliphant? It's some pretty sweet stuff!

Totally broken mix, what do you think?

I was curious as i also do not listen to pop music either, so i listened to this.

I did not find it bass heavy at all, the vocals are well out in front. Even when i crank the bass control it still stays relatively tight and her vocals remain clear. There is quite a tight kick repeating in the background.

Maybe it is the audio system you are listening to it through, giving you a smeared image.

I have a mid-price-range sony audio-amp connected to the output of my soundcard, running 10 inch 3 ways. I did not try it through the house system, but i would assume the image would be no less clear as the speakers on that system are much larger.
