RMV 5. The big daddy of CM-505.
Never looked at it like that. But you are right really.

I think the kicks and snares and toms available from the synthesis section of RMV are more than respectable, but something is obviously lacking when it comes to Cymbals. The Hi-Hats are very good though, in a synthesized kind of way. It's a different flavour, and one I'm glad I've got...

I think that Attack could probably do 90 percent of all the drum synthesis instruments mentioned here in a blind test. The interface is a bit small and fiddly, but it's workable when you get to know it.

I really love Drumaxx when it comes to synthetic sounds. Its Hi-Hats seem to cut a mix like nothing else. And though many say its kick drums are weak, I find them perfect for minimal stuff.

And don't forget to check out ERS Drums - http://www.kvraudio.com/product/ersdrum ... eas_ersson

An oldie but goodie.

Also all these:

The 808 http://www.kvraudio.com/product/tromine ... marvin-vst is particularly good, as is the http://www.kvraudio.com/product/hexagon ... marvin_vst which is based on a Simmons. We had a Simmons in the studio for a long time. Believe me this thing sounds better!

But maybe the king of swing when it comes to this type of thing, might be:

Don't forget to read DarkStar's excellent guide to this little wonder:
http://www.asseca.org/darkstar/drf-ug/index.htm

Dr-Fusion 2 really does kick like a mule. It's probably because most of the sounds are actually two sounds layered. But it's not only just drum synthesis it does, you can actually load your own samples in too. Actually, it is more of a sample player with a 'ROM' of over five hundred top sounds. I suppose the synthesis is secondary, but it does do it and do it very well. And of course you can shape the samples you load in.

And last but not least, we have Whipper Snapper by our very own RunBeerRun -

---------------------------------------------
Whipper snapper is 6 drum synths and a sequencer. The sequencer is host-clocked, and has remappable midi output to drive any other drum plugin.

The buttons at the top bring up the sequencer and the individual synths.

The synths have stuff like attack/amount pitch envelope, volume adsr, noise, delays.

At top right-seq output mode toggles whether the sequencer goes to the synths or midi output only.

Master On/off for sequencer at right, so you can play it live with MIDI controller of choice.

Recently started to get aquainted with drumspillage and it gets a clear vote aswell.

Unfortunately I think the best is Ultrabeat but I don't use logic

When will someone shamelessly rip this plugin off in a windows vst?

FM modulation of an oscillator by a sample?? YES PLEASE

Best synthetic drums I ever heard came from waldorf. The micro q makes a beast of a snare and recently the blofeld has become a drum monster as well. Seems to be as good at drums as it is at pads.

FXPansion DR-008 and Speedsoft Vsampler were light years ahead of all the other soft samplers.
