All this pacing up and down waiting to become a dad has got me thinking (well, it's knackered my creativity in the studio..). So I had an idea last night for a possible competition, it's prolly a really bad idea, so feel free to gun me down by way of reply.

Anyway:

Rather than writing tunes, how about one person puts up a sample, be it a drumloop, synth part, fx or whatever. They don't tell anyone how it was done or what they used, then we all have to try and recreate the part as best we can. The winner would be selected by the person that put up the first sample, and the winning entrant gets to put up the next sample for round 2, as well as explaining just what they did to make the original sample.

Maybe it's a stupid idea, but I thought it could be fun and also we might learn a bit along the way by understanding how we all work?

Answers on a postcard to....

I don't think that's the reason it's a stupid idea.

i knew i shouldn't have replied.......

you becoming a father didn't make the idea stupid. i'm not telling you its stupid because of the fact that you're becoming a father.

anyhow, just pulling your leg, don't want to upset you in this tense time....

sorry

it's all a bit too easy to cheat isn' it ? I mean we all know how to sample don't we?

I'd rather we did sort of a remix competition. One guy provides some samples, drumloop etc. and we have to make a tune of that. But even that could turn out 50 similar tunes I suppose.

Very true, I kinda hoped it would be done in good faith...it all sprang from me wanting to see how other people work. I reckon I could get so much more out of my kit if I could see what others do (or learnt to actually use half of it properly).

Nevermind, I did say it was prolly a stoopid idea....

Yes, but that's a problem for two reasons:

1) The baby's head is engaged, when you're as well hung as me.....
2) I can't stomach the thought, she's looking kinda repulsive right now.

She also mentioned nipple stimulation, but apparently it takes several hours to work, by which time I'd get lockjaw Laughing
