Greetings,

Running BWS 1.0.7 here with Fedora 19 on an old AMD Turion X2 laptop.

Finally discovered a solution to running external softsynths. A little convoluted but it works.

I connected a MidiSport 2x2 to the laptop and created a controller script for it. I physically connect the unit's Out A to its In B port. I summon a Hardware Instrument router in BW and set its output to the MidiSport's In A port. I connect the Out B port to my softsynth in QJackCtl's ALSA tab, and I'm ready to roll. I can now create MIDI sequences in BW and play them on external hard/soft synths (I also tested the connection by running the MidiSport's Out to a desktop machine with a hardware MIDI interface and an instance of the Yoshimi synth. Worked fine.

Alas, I've been unable to find a software-only solution for external connections. I tried a script for the ALSA virtual MIDI device but got no joy. I'll happily try other suggested solutions, but for now this one works here.

Best,

Nice hacking :) But I think I'll wait for Jack support to land.

@ dkasak: Definitely a hackish workaround. :) And I agree, more explicit JACK support would render it unnecessary.
