How is it not just inferior to white rice?
Like, when would you ever think "Oh, this is good. Im glad its not white rice."
In every instance: Its not bad, but its not as good as white rice.
I just dont get it...

Brown rice should be building railroads for the superior white rice.

"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

The texture is a little rougher, but it's a lot healthier, I eat s**t loads of rice, both white and brown, I get up at 5am and make sushi for my work lunch a couple of days a week, sushi only works with white rice... I think, I've never tried making it with brown rice.

Have you verified your claims in a proper double-blind test before starting this thread ?

I just made a mushroom pilau, brown rice worked a treat in that.

I hate "brown" rice, but I like wild rice.

White bread, white rice, white tortillas, they taste better. Though I do like wheat bread some of the time, I especially prefer wheat with certain sandwiches :)

But white rice rules

Im a pretty serious Rye bread loyalist.
I kind of dont like white bread at all tbh.
Rye or wheat for me.

Yeah, real wild rice is just different enough that I classify it as another thing.
Its regular brown and regular white that are just like different 'grades' of the same thing to me...

Im not completely sure what that is. :P
But would you say that is a case where the brown rice is actually a better choice?

It's mushrooms and rice, Indian style (and garlic and onion and ginger and garam masala and…). Because brown rice takes so long to cook properly, you need to mess with the order of cooking compared to doing it with white rice but I'd now go for brown instead of white for this one.

I did brown rice with beef in plum sauce the other night. That wasn't better than white but it certainly wasn't worse. I don't think I'd use brown rice for Thai though. Then again, what you really want for a lot of that is proper sticky rice.

Generally I stick with white rice, because brown rice takes longer to cook and seems to give me indigestion.

Sounds good to me!

[edit]Making it for dinner tonight -- with jasmine rice and shiitake plus some kale over here.

I rarely eat rice any more, I've replaced it with barley (local and all) .. But if I do buy rice, I opt for the brown variety.

Though, nothing, and I mean nothing, beats rice cooked iranian style and that needs either jasmin or basmati. Drool is forming on my tongue as I even think about it. Argh. Thanks, now I must have it. Crusty crunch crunch, yummy.

And if something takes longer to cook, remember you can pre-soak it before cooking.. Eases on the digestion too.
