I was tempted to do that at the time, but half of the sounds would be missing - the rapidly changeable intensity of the rain splatter and even more random birds talking to each other.

The melodies are still in my brainbox though, and may end up in my recorded stuff at some point.

I do remember many times playing ambient scapes live to my brother playing acoustic guitar and us both enjoying the moment, but when I'd asked later for a recording of what he was playing he'd be like "can't remember it now...slept since then!" and I've been a bit gutted that it was lost!

I'll pop a few beers and maybe a shot.. that's the limit when making music. Past that point, everything sounds great until I get up the next day, then it sucketh most mightily. It's easier to tolerate a buzz now, since I'm not trying to lock into 16th or 32nd note runs, but still.. there is a point of diminishing returns.

That said, it's trippy to load up Zebra, Alchemy, Absynth, and just poe onb the QuNeo and QuNexus.. the lights! So many pretty lights! :hihi:

I don't really drink these days - occasionally if I go out to somewhere to meet up with folks I've not seen for a bit (got one of them shindigs coming up this weekend), as I don't like being around drunk people if I'm not drunk.

I've a tendency to not know when to stop, and before I know it I'm seeing 3 screens in front of me instead of 1.

Plus I hate hangovers. They're not worth the fun of the drink on it's own merit - when I've not seen someone for a bit or there's a special occasion for something, then the hangover seems less of a high price to pay.

I've just found I'm far more productive stone cold sober. I used to also get the creative itch when I was ill - I had a viral pneumonia when I was about 19-20 that collapsed a lung and was off work and in pain for the better part of a month - during the bit after hospital, I made soooo much music as there wasn't much else to do (I'd read myself cross-eyed during the couple of weeks in hospital).

Drinking isn't so bad to a point, and it kind of helps relax me when I might be a little more tense than I want to be when I want to just kick back and play.

Getting stoned used to be a good and a bad thing. It was great for being creative and finding new licks and ignoring structure that might be inhibiting, but it's not good for rehearsing or arranging.
