Hello everybody,

got a little question for you, hope you can help me!

I searched for this typical Avicii white noise (not as a sweep), you can hear it in his Future Music session (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dIcuU58Oy8) from 01:05:35 to 01:05:45.

Because nobody could tell me how to get noises like this, I would like to make them on my own. Could you tell me how to do?

Thanks a lot
Juljan

Avicii use for white noise 3xosc. You can use other synths, choose noise osc, what's all

Pretty much every subtractive synth offers a white noise source. White noise, sawtooth waves and pulse waves are the "primary colours" of subtractive synthesis.

I know how to make a white noise, that's no problem-but how to make kind of that sound?

It's not only a white noise with a sidechain, isn't it?

Post

It certainly sounds sidechained

Sounds kinda phasey/flangey or comb filtered and with a delay/reverb

Try a very very short delay for the flangey sound, or double the sound and offset one slightly

Post

If you are using Ableton, the Operator synth has its own noise oscillator ;)

Post

It will be the sidechain-ing that you're hearing.

That's all that's happening to the noise in that clip.

If you pause at 1:06:08 you can see the wave file of it...

To achieve a simple sidechaining effect, you could just automate volume levels, or there are a couple of plugins that work quite well to recreate the effect:

Nicky Romero's Kickstart - http://www.kickstart-plugin.com/

Cableguys VolumeShaper - http://www.cableguys.de/volume-shaper.html

Kickstart was created by Cableguys too, and I think it is a simplified version of VolumeShaper as it is very similar but is less flexible.

TBH, Avicii probably stole that white noise sample, as he's in the habit of thieving...

But, more helpfully for this thread, yep it's just side-chaining as the chaps above have said.
Andrew's recommendation of VolumeShaper is good. I have it and it works well.

Cheers.

Both plugins are really cheap and it's much simpler than setting up sidechains.
