It looks like you could make all sorts of sounds with this. Can I play it like a synth for example? Does it respond to midi notes played chromatically?

Yep its a fully modular synthesizer, and a kick ass drum machine.

Well it is not like a synth. You can play MIDI notes only when you are in Tune mode, otherwise there is only one note per sound. There is also no sustain (ADR envelope).
But you still can do lots of things. Try the demo to make tour opinion.
