Where to find snares like this ?

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/120 ... _snare.mp3

Pitching up "normally" tuned snares in the sampler sounds quite crap imo so I'm looking for samples/a drum library where snares like the above are contained.

Sounds like ska/reggae/dub intro (tom) rolls/fill etc..... Look for Ska/Dub/Reggae drum sample libraries?

Some examples here I think

You can either take a bog standard metal snare and tighten the crap out of the drum head to get halfway there... or you can find a piccolo snare sample, is whart you want... basically the smaller the snare (height and/or width), the higher pitched it gets... since addcitve drums is in the news, check out the pearl and DW piccolo snares here:

Those two products won't help you if you don't have the AD engine, but should give you an idea of what to look for...

You're right about pitching up the entire sample: not the same, as a small snare has a high pitched pop, but still some relatively low freq resonance (due to the wood, etc.), which you'll be missing if the whole sample is pitched up...
You need to limit that rez, bro.

two two posts posts for for the the price price of of one one

It just occurred to me... you could try pitching up a basic snare sample to get the pop, then downstream add a low freq generator to simulate the drum resonance... could be worth a hack to get a cheap and easy alternative... Hmmm, just thinking here... with a tuneable drum impulse response + a basic tuned exciter snare sample you should be able to create any snare drum you could imagine...

Sounds to me like you are after a piccolo snare drum tuned high, The last two examples in this video should give an idea of what I mean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO7SFDCXqE4
Trick (The model in the above video is great), Sonor (their force 3000 10x2" jungle snare model is ace amongst others), Mapex do some very decent piccolo models and I like this one they do that is in between https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuxDAid6IbQ) also Pearl (their free floating range here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKicl4R_NuM and the 'firecracker' 10"x5" 'side snare' is also quality for the type of sounds you mention https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaCb2YvOcLU and/or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuHLamOYbOk)...Any would do the job very well IME FWIW.

The most important though is tuning the snare itself before tracking it, plenty of other models/brands I haven't mentioned as the one's I have I've tracked them and mixed then. Still I'm not an expert

Hope it is useful anyway and all the best :)

I sampled a couple of piccolo snares and quite a few high tuned snares for this sample library: http://loopsdelacreme.bandcamp.com/albu ... ack-deluxe
Check the audio demos, some of the snares sound very much like the example you posted

Thanks for the replies and suggestions, will check them out.

Yeah, those high snares are commonly used in Regae/Dub, that's were I got the example from.

Should have added though that I'm rather looking for oneshot samples of these snares (ideally multi-velocity and round robin), not loops and also not real snares (as I'm by no means a drummer :D).

But the hints about piccolo snares is a good one.

Oh, by "real snares" you mean sample your own physical snare drum???

Quick google turns up this thread: http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/f-o- ... snare.html

Couple of decent free downloads there..

They also point at drumwerks, which has some cheap snare samples... http://www.drumwerks.com/snare-samples.html

Edit: the drumwerks "Pearl Steve Ferrone Snare (Tight Pop Tuning)" snare might be good for what you want... tight tuning on a "standard size" brass snare... note, that sample is the pearl Ferrone snare, not his gretsch snare... With that sample you should get the pop you want, and you could even pitch it up ever so slightly to get even more pop without losing the bottom end resonance (since it's a relatively deep snare)... more flexible than a piccolo...

Some cool links in that thread, kbaccki.

Thanks for pointing me at it.

by "I'm not looking for real snares" I just meant I'm not planning on buying a physical snare drum and sample it, so I'm actually not that much interested in which different brands of (piccolo) snares are available that can do these sounds. I'm just looking for already recorded samples.
Sorry if that was unclear.

hmm... yeah... a decent quality snare would run you $300+ ... at least one worth sampling...

That's not a snare. Those are timbales.

That might be a good hint, thanks.

The two drums standing on the right are these both timbales ?
