I just want to hear you sing over it and it's complete ! ;-)

Maomoondog wrote:@ bstageboss. The bass sound is highly accurate, well done indeed :tu:

Thanks!! That's a compliment from someone in the know. :hail:

The intro lead pluck was trickier and I'm guessing it was double-tracked originally. I had to resort to creating two separate patches for that, but it's still a bit off :bang:. One side sounds like an analog filter pluck sound with a very fast envelope; the other sounds like (at least) a dual oscillator sound with one oscillator tuned way high to get a metallic, bell like quality. There was something about the envelope on that one that Synth1 can't quite get. I'm not sure if it was a Jupiter patch or something else. I could probably get closer using a DX7 or other FM type synth, but that'll have to wait until I finish up other things.

@maomoondog: Thanks for the other compliment on the Jupiter factory patches. One of these days I'll have to find the real deal and try it out. :hyper:

Maomoondog wrote:The main tune that plays the lead starting @ 0:26 was pure Jupiter 8, I used to have the settings written down, but after 30 years, paper can stack up some what :hihi:
The bass was a composite of a Jupiter 8 and a PPG Wave 2 edited patch #10 or #12 (I forget)

(I thought you guys must have had a PPG for the sessions, because I could hear it on "Forever Young", so it's nice to know that I wasn't imagining things. Am I also hearing a Roland Vocoder in the intro, or is that the PPG also?)

There's still something about the "Japan" lead in the left side that sounds like the envelopes are different for the two oscillators. If it was the JP-8, then the second was tuned up, something like two octaves plus between a sixth or a seventh. Couldn't tell about the X-mod, if there was any, but it did sound a bit bell-like or metallic to me. I may have to fire up the Arturia emu, but that's not a perfect solution, unfortunately.

Grrr :tantrum:...I mean, er, good for you :hihi: . Is that the one in the Formel Eins clip?

Arp Odyssey Mk II
Hohner-String-Ensemble
Korg MS-20
LinnDrum (Mk-2)

Oberheim OB-X
PPG Wave 2
Roland Juno-60
Roland System-100 (not the big 100M Wall beast)
Roland Jupiter-8 (X2)
Roland MC-4 Micro composer.

I have tried to emulate the sound for big in japan on my Arturia but can't seem to get it (too many extra features not on a real jupiter)

 That's some list! Interestingly enough, there are "emulations" for almost all of the gear, but it appears that there's still some progress to be made, especially in the 1-to-1 translation regarding interface/visual settings to sound.

Maomoondog wrote:Our Jupiters never actually left the studio, TV clips and promotional appearances were done using hired kit provided by the networks. :)

Ah, that figures. Although it feels a bit weird now to see JP-8s used just as a prop. Did you ever get yours MIDI'ed?

I would think that the kit studio's hired would also be hired out to a band touring, usually a company specialising in instrument hire.

My Jupe is as it was from the factory, no MIDI. Nice and pure :)

If you people need 10+ days for the remaining ~50 patches, just imagine how much time I'll be making 10 banks... :hihi:
