Really they are very different in sonic character.

I'd pick Dune2... well, I have Massive and rarely ever use it cause I just don't find the sound of it makes me happy. Dune2 sounds sweet without any trouble... I find Massive takes work to sound sweet... and even then it just doesn't easily have the kind of lovely nuance and subtle character that I tend to favor.

Apples and Rutabagas

Very different beasts.

A demo download is essential.

They are both Fab.

I choose DUNE 2, easily. Awesome sound, endless possibilities, but easy to work with. I gave Massive a chance at least 5 times over the years, and never convinced me. Got hooked on DUNE 2 at first try.

I have to say that Massive has aged increadibly well. It definitely fills a spot, like i.e. Sylenth1 etc. However, from a sound designers perspective, DUNE 2 wins for me, thanks to it's versatility and complex nature. I also tend to prefer the character of DUNE 2 over that of Massive.

I like them both equally...Dune2 for it's unique per voice features, Massive for its feedback loops and crossfading between lfo shapes. The scream filter is pretty unique sounding too.

Massive, like all capable synths, can sound as you decide it to sound : Mellow, funky, smooth, airy etc.
