I would jsut use something like ccleaner. Manual editing can lead to problems. I have had issues in the past with registry, what you need to do is manual search elicenser and the core components using "find" function, but use with extreme caution as you may end up corrupting your whole system. Another option is glarys soft or RegistrarHomeV7 both free.

how do i use the software to clean it for elicenser, do i have to search within the program elicenser and delete everything that shows up? I know you meantioned a manual search but is that for the program or doing it myself manually?

Okay, just finished what you suggested MFXxx and it didn't work  When I go to device manager show hidden then go to other devices elicenser shows up and it says the driver isn't installed and please go to website and grab the driver from the support section? This is ofcourse after I followed all your instructions. again, I just plugged the elicenser on another computer and the driver installed automatically

however nothing of the sort happens on this particular computer, is there a way to do this manually to install the usb driver so the computer reads it? Im not sure if Im talking about the elicenser or another driver which actually reads the physical usb stick??? Again, the above pic is after the driver wizard pops up automatically after every time you put a fresh usb into the socket and it downloads the driver so it will work automatically, presumably from the usb stick itself, it reads the driver and activates its installation. So this is not what shows up after the actual installion of the elicenser control center just the driver wizard, does this make sense?

There were a number of things i tried not sure what the exact fix was, i unistalled then ran ccleaner once then rebooted and it didn't work, I did the whole thing again but didn't reboot and installed the program wit trouble shoot compatibility option i noticed when right clicking elicneser installer, used the options try recommended settings, then start the program option which runs the installer, afterwards the driver was manually installed via the hardware wizard and the license showed up in elicneser, and works now! I also before uninstalling the second time fiddled with running the program in overwirte mode with the command prompt option which might have had an effect. If any has similar problem pm me and I can walk you through it in more detail... Peace~Tim

Oh yeah, and still no reply or help from steinberg after about a week, it says the ticket usually takes a day or two,,, but...

just found the reply in inbox, so nm, however they suggested installing the latest version of elicenser which i already mentioned in post so it might have taken a while if i'd had to wait a day between replies.. Well the product sounds good atleast... Peace

I'm late to the party, and it's good to see that you sorted it out. Then again...
mysticvibes wrote:I'm trying to install Halion Sonic 2 on a computer without an internet connection and when I plug in the usb elicenser Windows Hardware Detection Wizard doesn't automatically install the driver for elicenser. I try to manually install it by clicking the troubleshoot icon and it says "The device driver for eLicenser is not installed. Install the latest driver for the device".
First and foremost, if you need an update of the Elicenser Manager, go to this page - no spam, no facebook login needed:

http://www.elicenser.net/en/home.html

While running the installer, the software is usually telling you to "keep the Elicenser plugged in" and "not remove it". This way the software automatically finds the USB key. But... you can usually install the software on a fresh rig and then plug in the key, or plug it in first then install the software. It shouldn't matter. Never did to me at least. And I'm using Steinberg tools for quite a while now.

You can even "sync" to the key once the software manager is installed - should everything fail. Or... simply let the key be plugged in, and install a new software version. Especially if an elder software bundle by Steiberg is force-overinstalling elder Elicenser drivers as the ones already present.

There really is no need to run as admin, or force-admin the CMD pannel to overinstall. The software is usually pain free. A reboot might help (you tried that), then again... I never needed to reboot my rig in order to run any Steinberg software post the LPT keys.

Another thing you might need to look out for next time:
Is the license a "software Elicenser" or "hardware Elicenser"? Chances are that the manager installed the license on to the HDD instead of the USB key. Which can happen, especially with VSTi and small version of Cubase/Wavelab. These licenses can moved to the USB key however.

Which brings me to this:
Guillermo Navarrete wrote:You can run Cubase in a computer without an internet connection even if you are planning to never connect it to the internet.
You only need to download and activate the license into your USB-eLicenser on another computer that is connected to the internet.
I really start to wonder why Mr Navarrete is actually a Product Specialist, and still allowed to speak up after all that criticism that is being flinged at him. Especially if he acts like a know it all technician and even developer (see GearSlutz for example). And I don't even need to mention the fact that he accused me of using a cracked Steinberg software in the first posts he made here on KVR.

This particular issue had absolutely absolutely nothing to do with Cubase, but with Halion Sonic. The OP didn't even mention if he has(!) Cubase. Just because the topic is called "Steinberg", doesn't mean that it's a Cubase issue. That's for starters. And... the quote came directly out of the Knowledge Base as well. That's helpful to the person that already digged through all that.

So instead of constantly acting like a know it all (Steinberg rep), I'd drop it and really ask myself "wth am I doing for my reputation and the reputation of the company I represent?". This is not how you do it! :dog:

I actually even applaud the KVR and GS community for trying to help fix issues with Steinberg software(!) - sometimes better than the support. Which is there, and helpful if you post the right issues (backed up with screen casts and the likes) - it's just overloaded with requests (no wonder, looking at the current issues with Cubendo and Wavelab).

Sorry to say this - but GN has now the status of the current IKM reps to me:
An aggravating presence that's only here to inform us how everything is great and shiny, and that upgrades are "still fair priced".

Oh and that "run as admin" is the definite solution to everything.

So, I am trying to do much the same thing on my system.

I recently rebuilt my machine, but took my windows image over from my old machine. While not a suggested way to do things, I do not have time to deal with reinstalling the hundreds of apps I work with every week to help clients. Also, everything works fine - everything - except ELC.

When I plug in my red key (I get NFRs from Steiny), I get an error that drivers were not installed for protectexecuter. No amount of re-running the installer fixes this, and it happens in all user accounts, and safe mode.

I have reset my soft ELC, which is the system ID that is linked from the mobo - still no dice.

My ELC dongle is never, ever seen by ELC control center.

The last thing I can assume here is a registry issue. I found a number of entries with "protectexecuter" under "devicedesc" in my registry under HKEY LOCAL MACHINE/system/enum/USB. A key labeled 07DA0E28294F0010000000 and some others have a string data entry labeled as "devicedesc" with the value protectexecuter.

I am someone who does this stuff everyday, and this is one of the most inane issues I've ever seen. I've never seen a simple USB device become so neutered by one thing.

Anyway - this is one of the only threads on seemingly the entire internet with information on this, so I am hoping I can work something out, because low and behold, I had a client call with much the same issue earlier today.

I'm open to suggestions on anything else, if anyone has them.

Thanks!

I think the simplest solution would be to unplug the key, deinstall the eLicenser software, then reboot. Maybe get rid of all former traces of the software.

Then start with a version prior to the most current one. Install it, go by the screen informations. Maybe plug in the key at a different USB port. Reboot. Try to sync the key with the software. If the key is found, you can easily move ports.

An extreme measure is even to remove all USB devices, then delete all USB ports (which will be properly reinitialized on Windows relaunch), then replug the USB devices. Sometimes Windows barfs and refuses to recognize what the heck is going on. The course of plug and play.

Truth be told, I never had any problem with my key(s). Even if I rolled back an image - it was always found. Then again, I never used the Soft Elicenser (HDD Licenses), only the hardware Elicenser (USB key) post roll back.

Yeah, at this point, I've done everything I can. It makes no sense. Really sad that this little dongle and whatever driver goes with it are so weak that moving a hard drive between systems causes it to die. Essentially, I will have to re-image my entire system if I'm to make this work. It's a real stupid situation. I've killed everything related to protectexecuter and elicenser in my registry, even found a driver in windows/drivers/ called synsub64.sys that works with this application and removed it, but I can't get it to work. I've un/reinstalled a billion times, tried safe mode, a secondary user, and every USB port on the machine - no dice. I do this crap everyday and I've never seen something this stupidly stubborn.

I cannot believe I'm going to have to re-image a system to be able to use Cubase.

I have pre-made windows images (the beauty of owning a company that does this work), but I really can't take the time to do this, and there's no reason I should have to, when even ilok's often buggy ilok manager works just fine after this system was moved.

Sad, really sad.

@botkiller Just had a quick look for you. Have you checked out the link :
https://www.steinberg.net/nc/en/support ... oting.html
Something that jumped out is your elicenser an older one?
[PC Windows] A note for users with nVidia nForce3 chipsets: Some old Steinberg Keys (key numbers are xxx 523 326 or lower) do not work with this specific chipset family and need to be replaced with a new eLicenser (see chapter 2 for details). Another solution is to connect the USB-eLicenser to an active USB hub.
Just a thought before I shoot off to work.

Reason I am asking is my elicenser is a more recent blue key, you mention yours is the older red dongle? Another thought is if you have a second system/laptop have you tried your key on a second machine? Im wondering if the new machine is a different chipset and that could be a cause.

Hello,

We do not recommend to image a computer with the eLicenser Control Center. eLCC installations do not survive system images, ghosting or system migrations.

If you need to image a computer or ghost it, the best thing to do is to uninstall the eLicenser Control Center and then create the image, after that install the latest eLicenser Control Center on the new computer.

The migration process damages hidden eLC files that cannot be removed by the windows uninstaller. Therefore the usual eLCC renewal methods do not work on systems on which an image has been created. All efforts to reinstall the eLCC will end up with error messages or simply do not have any effect.

After uninstalling the eLicenser Control Center through the windows Control Panel, please verify whether any of these files and folders are still on the system and delete them manually:

C:\ProgramData\eLicenser
C:\ProgramData\Syncrosoft

C:\Windows\system32\:
All "SynsoNos", "Synsopos" and "Synsoacc" files

64 bit windows:
C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\SYNSOACC.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\SYNSOACC-Hilfe.chm
C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\SYNSOACC-Help.chm
C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\SYNSOACC-Aide.chm
C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\SYNSOPOS.exe

Driver 32-bit Windows:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\SynasUSB.sys
C:\WINDOWS\inf\SynasUSB.inf

Driver 64-bit Windows:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\SynUSB64.sys
C:\WINDOWS\inf\SynUSB64.inf

After deleting all these files please install the eLicenser Control Center Overwriter.

You can download it from this link:

Best regards,
GN

P.S. If you have a NFR you should get in contact with whoever gave you that key, they should be able to give you support as well.

I can't confirm issues with the Elicenser on ghosted images.
That is once again something new - but I understand that the Elicenser support can't support that.

Red Elicenser keys were once given out as NFRs or were part of certain sample packages. The most available ones were the blue ones. I also have a fairly old blue model and rolled back several times - no issues with that key whatsoever. And I am on NVidia cards!

Funny enough that I do have issues with Cubase and Nuendo, but none with NVidia and the Elicenser.

Still - I am wondering - what are you GN?
A developer/coder?
A support tech?
A product specialist?

You now throw around with technical stuff on top of your "I know everything" attitude, that it's not even funny.
