Hi, I am trying Haas fx on main vocal with vfxFreeHaas plug in.

Once I duplicate the Vocal track (mono):
Have I to pan hard left and h.right them, or just keep them in C both and add the plug in to one of them?

I tried that plugin recently, I might be wrong, but I think it adds delay on one side while keeping both dry sides.

Anyways I'd keep your vocals center I guess, I mean if you're applying different fx and that's why you've duplicated it, it's up to you if you only want the delayed sound on one track?

Dunno. When I put as an insert on the single mono C track, doesn't change.
I am checking around the web and often see 'duplicate the same hard left right pan'. Humm.
If I duplicate left and right doesn't it turn stereo?

Post

Well, the whole point of the Haas effect is to get a stereo effect, isn't it?

The easiest way to achieve the effect is to duplicate your mono vocal track, pan one of the tracks hard left, the other one hard right and delay one of them by a few MS.

Maybe test it on a full commercial mp3 first, that's ususally what I do with plugins.

Be sure to set the track interleave to stereo, even though it's mono data. The output of the plugin is going to be stereo, and most DAWs won't handle that correctly if you've set the track to mono. That could be why you don't hear any change.

It's not necessary to duplicate the vocal track if you're using a plugin to achieve the Haas effect. That's the main reason for using a plugin rather than the old-school method of cloning the track, hard-panning the two and adding a short delay to one of them.

I had this problem in Reaper x64 with that plugin. Then I tried the free plugin from VacuumSound called ADT - Artificial Double Tracking. It works amazingly well for the HAAS effect of mono tracks, especially vocals and guitars or regular audio (WAV) tracks. It even sounds great on stereo tracks when you invert the L/R delay. You can even use it as you record a track live without any latency issues. However, it doesn't work well or at all on MIDI tracks. You can find out more and download here: http://www.vacuumsound.de/plugins.html

Best of luck with your recording!

If I use anything like that to fatten to up vocals, I keep the the main vocal track mono and perfectly centered, then use the widening effect on a send, normally with a bit of chorus (or delay/reverb) mixed in too, but I dial in the send so that the majority of the vocal sound is still coming from the main vocal track, it just turn it up until it's doing the "fattening" thing.

I probably done that on these songs (cheeky plug :P ):

wow, I am old...I dont use a plugin for the Haas effect/trick (some sources I have read describe the haas effect as a natural occurrence and the haas trick as a way of manipulating it, hence effect/trick), done properly it ads depth as well as a wider field

Hi Turello,

Yes, I've heard of them, they are amazing. I remember they were playing around Houston venues last year. I'm not sure what they're up to now but according to their website, they have a few shows scheduled in July. Here is a link to their website where you may find more info: http://www.kingsxrocks.com/
