in the demo you can save and load presets, there are only 5 presets that show up in the synth but if you load preset to the redominator folder where those 5 presets are is the complete factory preset library, so it imports and saves presets from the alpha juno hardware and allows you to save, I made a bass trying to figure out how these envelopes work, it's not anything fancy but here, load this into your vst/au by clicking load button which looks like a folder icon, I'll make more but when you load any patch from these folders in the factory presets folder you load that bank into the memory of the synth, I'm making presets for it using the initialize function now that I've opened it twice, if you find presets in syx form try loading them in the demo and saving, I'm sure it will work but I haven't tried it myself, I like this softsynth a lot, so I'm putting it on my list of most get vst plugins.

You need to "load" patches from a new directory and then you'll see the patcvhes in that dir only. It's certainly something that can be improved and they will continue with updates ofcourse.

I've got this as a Rack Extension in Reason. Sounds fantastic; highly recommend the VST/AU to those looking for that Hoover sound among other things. :tu:

I compared it to the appropriate parts of DIVA. Because I'm the life and soul, baby.

For the oscillators, I noticed two major differences. One, the three oscillator layers (square, saw and sub) seem to sum in different ways, producing different composite waveshapes. Which one is more true to the original isn't clear to me (and I don't care that much). I did a search for oscilloscope traces from the original Alpha Juno but couldn't find anything. Perhaps a fellow KVRist can oblige?

Secondly for the oscillators, the SUB waveforms have one component, the AND-ed, higher pitched pulse wave component, which in DIVA is slightly overzealously antialiased, whose cutoff varies around the 10-20k range depending upon which note in the octave you play. This is hard to notice because the base wave doesn't have this flaw, and I only really noticed by looking at a spectrogram. This means that in the case of the SUB waves, ReDominator is SLIGHTLY (and I mean slightly!) more raspy for those particular AND-ed waves. I'd never have noticed this without the spectrogram as it's one component of an already bright and well-executed waveform.

When it comes to the filter, I think I prefer DIVA's, hands down.

To factor everything else in, DIVA has all the other glorious modules and features, and ReDom has those interesting multi-stage envelopes. Obviously nobody would see ReDom as a replacement for DIVA, but some who own DIVA may be wondering if it's worth getting. Since I got a customer discount, I decided to go for it.

I hope a lot of equally subtle and cerebral music comes out of this plugin.

go to patch arena and download these sysex presets, load presets and then click the preset name on the gui
click load alpha sysex and then load these .syx preset files, to be honest this is the best demo for a VST ever
you can load and save syx files to ReDominator presets and everything imported sounds better, for instance
in the factory redominator sounds great but when you import the syx files they sounds brighter and bigger
or maybe there accurate to the sound, i don't know, i could have bought an alpha juno for 200 dollars but
decided to buy something else but if i had, I'd like to do an A/B comparison to the real thing, I'm sure it's
close, it imports nicely for a demo.

if you download an editor and load the syx presets you find, editor them by using the editor and save them in syx format you can use them inside ReDominator which is now my new favourite plugin and my reason to buy both Alpha Juno-1 and 2, the toms in the beginning of Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up are from an Alpha Juno, Pete Hammond told me this, you can edit sounds and create them using the random generate preset functions on some of the editors, most are for macintosh but there is one called Alpha Base which I downloaded and made some changes to a syx preset and saved as syx and then import via redominator and it works like a charm, go here for download of the editor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VToath93sy4

Yep sorry about that, might have troubles on XP that we didn't know about. But please email our support and we'll see if that issue can be fixed..!

Juno sysex import

Post

Yes -- it loads single patch sysex dumps from Alpha Juno. Use Alpha Base or similar software to grab sysex dumps. Native sysex support is planned for a future update..

Just some observations and a minor complaint:

There doesn't appear to be a global finetune knob. That can be a problem when you have a pitch envelope that rises and falls slightly - the envelope is unipolar but you want your pitch modulation to be *around* the played pitch, or to bend up or down to it's level. The solution is to offset the tune of the whole synth with a finetune knob. It's also useful, of course, when you're playing against instruments with nonstandard tuning, perhaps slightly speeded up or slowed down. It happens.

Something cool I noticed, if you have "PWM saw" and the PWM pulse going at the same time, with PWM active, they sum in an interesting way, such that you get two wavefronts moving in contrary motion. Why is that cool? Because it makes quite a unique sound, that's why :)
