I'm developing arthritis in both hands. I'ts painful and the stiffness is affecting my playing ability. Can any of you guitarists or keyboardists offer me some advice on how to lessen the debilitating effects of this condition? Thank you.

Fellow sufferer. Best advice I can offer is to keep the joints active, look at your diet and lifestyle and ask your rheumatologist if medication makes any sense (and is worth the tradeoff). God bless and good luck. I know how demoralizing it can be.
PS: from what I've read, this is why Keith Richards uses an open tuning

I can't relate, but used to use 5 pound weights to exercise my wrists, it made a world of difference for ability to play guitar.

I'm sorry, I can only relate through the fact that arthritis is my biggest fear. I hope you find relief...rcat wrote:I'm developing arthritis in both hands. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I'm noticing mine getting worse. It makes me stop whatever I'm doing and wince until the pain subsides. I use ibuprofen when it gets bad. Not sure that much can be done except to see a doctor for Rx choices.
Sorry, you're dealing with this. I get it in my wrists and knees. So glad I don't have to climb towers anymore.

My wife has RA, and has found that cutting wheat gluten out of her diet has made a world of difference. May not work for everyone, but is worth looking into.... You can always go back to eating whatever you want after a week or two if it makes no difference....
