RME Multiface versus M-Audio Fast Track Pro?

I'm on Windows 7 (64-bit).

I currently use a fast track pro, but recently I attained an RME Hammerfall DSP Multiface (the first one), as well as the PCI card that comes with it. But being an old interface, would it be incompatible with a 64-bit OS like Windows 7.

My fast track pro is pretty nice, but there are a lot of overloads and latency still (have to up by buffer. though it's a great improvement from my Tascam US 1-44).

I also attained a MOTU 2408, but I don't have the PCI card, so I won't really talk about it.

So basically, Hammerfall Multiface versus Fast Track Pro! What say you?

You could look it up on their website, but I think it has x64 drivers.
Answer to the question: Hammerfall, definitely! RME have the best audio interfaces and drivers, but not cheap.

If you literally already have all these interfaces, I would find the drivers, if available, and test. The fast track pro is more a decent budget interface, it's what I use, I can successfully set it at the lowest buffer (128 samples), very good for someone who just wants reliable basic use.

I don't know much about the multiface in general. What's ADAT/SPDIF? It seems to be the type of cable I need to hook it up to the PCI card. These new simpler interfaces have spoiled me. Does the Multiface need a power supply? It seems like it does. Also, are the speakers plugged in via quarter inch analog? I guess I'd assume that.

ADAT/SPDIF is for digital input and/or output. ADAT is great when you want to expand the amount of analog inputs or outputs. e.g. with a Behringer 8000/8200 or others...
I don't have ADAT on my Ultralite Mk3 ( :( ), but SPDIF in+out, which I use to connect my digital submixer (Edirol M16DX).

Yes power supply (this is the II though: http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b188/dejacky/RME2.jpg ) and yes 1/4".

Umn...yeah, you really should.....you can use the 2408 WITH the RME as an ADAT expander....adding 8 more channels of I/O...no pci card needed. I use a 2408 for this purpose with my Presonus 1818VSL....works great!!

Oh! So I could have quarter inch from speakers into the MOTU, and then an ADAT from the MOTU to the RME, and then the RME to the PCI (whatever cable that may be, probably another ADAT?)?

How disappointing. My RME cardbus doesn't fit into the PCI-E x16 slot.

Do I need the internal PCI to get the RME interface to work, or can I directly connect it via firewire?

Of course not, it's cardbus, made for cardbus slots, in laptops. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/CardBus_slot

The Multiface II can be used with laptops as well as desktop computers. The connection to laptops is achieved via a CardBus card or an ExpressCard, the connection to desktops via a PCI card or PCI Express card. These interfaces are sold separately.

Speakers??? No, you have 8 more inputs....for instruments, vocals etc....

That part is correct....I believe the RME connects to the host PCI with a firewire cable
