Greece made it "in extremis" :) A good prize for a great coach (Fernando Santos), and for the fighting spirit of the Greeks.

For those who mocked up of Colombia, I think yesterday gave them an answer. Even without their most famous player (Falcao, another former F C Porto player), but with a fantastic James Rodriguez (also former F C Porto) and Jackson Martinez (attacker of F C Porto), Colombia smashed Japan by 4-1. I have great expectations on this team.

They made second place in the group with only 4 points! While I'm glad to see European teams progress to the next stage, I'm not sure that Greece will be one of the front runners.

So Paraguay ate Italy, literally... I though it would end like this. You can't win playing static in this competition, even at 100% accuracy. For European teams, I only see chances for Netherlands, don't know about France, as I missed their matches. Paraguay vs Paraguay tomorrow... this is gonna be interesting.

Looks like everyone is going for early goals in today's games.

It's the Musa and Messi show!! :band:

:hihi:

Highest scorers in the cup so far: Neymar and Messi.

Of course a good part of it probably has to do with the quality of the competition. Ronaldo, for example, arguably has had stronger defenses to deal with in the first round.

Messi looked good out there though, and no surprises that he was taken off before the end of the game. They probably want him saved for the next game.

Musa is going to cause defenders problems though. Whoever they play you can bet they put a lot of effort into shutting him down.

And now it's Switzerland's turn to score early.

Yet another nice goal, this time from Shaqiri...

If things keep going this way, this will be the only group where european teams got advantage.

True. I really thought that would have been true of Germany/Portugal, but Portugal have a huge mountain to climb now...

still got a dead giveaway of a german speaker in there though. :)
preferrably: I've been learning for more than 25 years

I sympathise with anyone learning it, most of our lot cant speak it very well either.
no offence or arrogance intended, just wanted to help.

PS i lived in munich for a year, my german is terrible. Lovely place though ;)
IMHO, the sentence "I have been learning for more than..." implies that learning has finished. But I'm still learning English, and I will keep on learning!
