Kygo & Matoma Sound

How to make that sound...

It's been almost 2 weeks since I started playing around with Logic Pro (had used a bit of FL in the past) and I would really like to try something. I wanna recreate a summer-relaxing-chill sound close to what Kygo and Matoma did in some of their releases.

To be more exact here are their remixes, if anyone can help me out by suggesting any plugin - synth & modifications to be done then I'll be grateful! :phones: :phones: :phones: :phones:

Interesting, I thought I was the only one who's into Kygo. :)

He seems to use a lot of housey analog square oscillator basses and stick around 100bpm, like a slowed down version of the Ibiza sound that was big 10 years ago crossed with a heavy dose of Billy Ocean. In this particular remix, his contributions seem to be that square bass and a light house drum loop, the rest is probably from the original material.

Hmm that's interesting, might try it later on. What about that Matoma guy, his intro's are so sick every time and his pluck is so chilly and "summerish". Any idea what could give me same results?

I see, it's the flute sounds you're interested in. That's pretty standard rompler fare, UVI's Plugsound Pro will do it and it's 40% off (with the extra 20% discount in cart) right now. Also, someone recently posted a free GM sfz sound set that ought to do it. Indigisounds makes a steel drum library and I just emailed them to ask if they have plans to do any more islandy kinds of sounds.

Maybe try messaging Kygo to ask him where he gets his sounds? If you, please report back here. :)

Truly the Flute - Whistle sounds are the one's I'm interested in and I believe that makes his versions sound so great. Indeed, we'd really need more "islandy" kinds of sounds, like you mentioned above. I'll try to contact Kygo himself somehow, probably through his Twitter which isn't that over-crowded with his fans like on Facebook & SoundCoud. Hopefully he'll get back to me with a nice response. If he contacts me back I'll make sure to inform you with a reply, or even better with a private message since none else showed interest in this topic.

Cool! Thanks!

btw, I contacted Indigisounds and they do have a library of island-y sounds from Trinidad, although it's going to be for percussion instruments, not wind instruments. EastWest has a bunch of ethnic wind instrument libraries but they're more for soundtracks and don't have this summery kind of vibe.

Im also quite interested in this style of music (tropical/summer-ish kind of sound). My fav have to be Kygo's remix on Passengers - Caravan, damn that bass is so good and i like how he achieves the "stabby" kind of synth that is somewhat filtered (I guess) in some of his songs. Would be nice if people could update this thread with more content, because this sound is the shit atm.

The one that got me into Kygo was his Ed Sheeran "I See Fire" remix. It's funny because I started off making fun of it ("check this out, someone's trying to bring back Billy Ocean!") and then grew to love it. Once I saw The Hobbit and heard how lame the original song is, it both increased my admiration for how much better he made it AND made me even more embarrassed to share it with other people. ;)

remi and I determined that the Nexus Pop library is probably a good place to start for trying to get this sound.

Haha yeah the Ed Sheeran remix is pretty genius, perfect tempo and everything if you compare it with the original which is a bit too slow imo.

Will def. check the Pop library out, i've found some decent flute presets in the Dance Orchestra XP pack that might be useful.

I actually think HALion Sonic 2 is probably the best current option available. SampleTank 3 could be excellent for these kinds of sounds, I was really impressed with its sounds when I heard them at the NAMM show.

That's a decent start, but it still lacks a lot of elements like bass etc.

Yes of course..
