Windows7 64bit clean install question

I bought windows7 ultimate 64bit.
I previously only had the win7 32bit on partition C.
I was wondering, if I do a clean install of it on my C partition, will it also erase my D partition?
If not, can I just install the win7 ultimate from the iso file of it on my D partition, without putting it on an external disk or dvd?
Thanks.

I recently did this going from WinXP(32) to Win8(64). All my other partitions stayed intact, so it should work in your case too I assume (just be careful to choose the correct partition when asked during install )mcnoone wrote:I bought windows7 ultimate 64bit.

Hm...I wouldn't think so as from what I know it needs a bootable medium to install from.If not, can I just install the win7 ultimate from the iso file of it on my D partition, without putting it on an external disk or dvd?
But a more computer-hacky person might correct me.

I'll just burn it to disk and boot it like that then.

Your D partition likely is not large enough to hold a running version of Ultimate. But without seeing the drive credentials hard to say for certain.
I advise an install on a completely different HD if you have room in your computer and know how to.
Maybe Windows changed but it used to be you could not run the OS from a dvd.
This way you will have the 32 bit available should something go wonky.
Happy Musiking!

Label your D: drive before you install so that you know which one it is when you do the install i.e. call it "KEEPME" or something like that.
When you install be sure to do a custom install, and when it asks you to partition drives, make sure you do nothing to change your D: drive - you can format the other space around it and install your new OS there.

when i went from win7 32 to 64, i added a SSD for my boot drive and programs. Keep your docs and audio files on the D or E drive. I made a detailed list of my upgrade to the new SSD if you're interested.
Upgrade info
1. Backup all documents, music, vsts from existing c:
Save list of all software license numbers in a file to cy/paste.
Check and save files of current 64 bit drivers on drive.
Review VSTs that you want to install.
