Hello,

Native Instruments Absynth has a great Mutate and Random feature. Does Camel Alchemy also have this? Which other Virtual Instruments have a Mutate and Random function? Are they as good or better than Absynth’s?

How about a Preset-Morph (in-between function) that will combine two presets to get a new one. Do any Virtual Instrument have a Preset-Morph capability?

FM8 has the preset morph capability between 4 different presets if I am not mistaken.

Lots of VSTs coming with a randomize function but if you wanna have the ultimate random thingy then maybe stuff like Tobybear's Mini Host which is a VST host and can randomize every VST.

I have Bidule http://www.plogue.com/ and did not have the luck to produce interesting and usable results. Tobybear's Mini Host has preset randomizer with script support and mutate option. Will have to check it out and compare it to Bidule. In any case I am looking for an easy to implement and easy to use mutate/random component in a VSTi. It seems it is a Stand Alone Host or is it also a VST/VSTi?

The reason I asked for a great Mutate and Random feature as the one in Absynth because as of up to now I have not seen one as good as this on another VSTi. Perhaps I should have capitalized GREAT. Meaning great as apposed to not-so-great.

The results of this mutate/random features produces interesting and usable results.

Are there other VSTi's with full featured Mutate and Random control? Does Alchemy have such a feature? If a Preset-Morpher is included that will be a plus.

Native Instruments Kore 2 (handles up to 8 morph points - like Alchemy) - for any plugin or combination of plugins.

I know sonic charge's microtonic allows for morphing between two presets, although I think synplant might be more up your alley....

Reviewing this and other threads I am compiling a list of VSTi’s with a random/mutate function.

Synth or Sampler VSTi with built-in random/mutate function:
Absynth – Is this the one to beat? I have this and the random/mutate is fantastic!
FM8 – It has a decent random/mutate feature but nowhere close to the one in Absynth.

Fruity loops has had randomisation and hybridisation of plugin paramaters for a long time

Cantabile has an excellent randomise option, I use it all the time for VSTs that don't come with their own.

I use the hybridize feature of FLStudio sometimes...can be useful when you're feeling lazy to get a new sound. It doesn't "morph" betweent them, however. It also only allows it with plugins that report the rpesets to the host - so most modular synths are out, and also those that only have their own patch interface - which is many synths these days.

You can do preset morphing and randomising and hybridizing in Reaktor, btw.

So, no-one has yet to dethrone Absynth as the best at random/mutate functions. How good it the Alchemy at this?
