Yes, well, I like contrast. And besides, the Skinny Puppy track must be dance music, right? Lots of dancing in that video. :P

Based on your selection we seem to have been on the same road in the 70's and 80's, but come the 90's we took off in complete different directions.

Also, the video for 2014 was clearly a mistake, it should have been filed under 80's.

Hmm, seems the roads parted even earlier then...

Uh, I think I forgot the ironic smiley on my post :( I was referring to that very retro eighties look of the vid and the people in it...

@ Numanoid - diversity can be beautiful

Re the Kiesza vid it was that late 80's early 90's retro look that first caught my attention. I think the video in itself pays great homage to that particular era of dance tunes in its styling but actually goes a step further in that it is very well choreographed (with retro dance moves too) and shot in one take which is a fair achievement. The sound of the track is also quite contemporary, a fairly sparse arrangement offset by a solid lead vocal. I've played this out a few times and girlies will dance to it :)

Anyhow here's another goodun from the Colonel

Just make the music that you enjoy (failing that go for a walk, watch some porn, have a fight with a random bloke until something else happens).

anyone know what album this is off? I think it's the first thing I have heard by BT that I liked (assuming it is by BT and not just a Tori Amos song he remixed)

I don't know it's so much that there's a lot of negative things said about dance music here, it's more that as a genre it's become both ubiquitous and subdivided into a meaningless number of subgenres.

It wouldn't matter if it was dance music now, or rap in the previous decade, or alt-rock in the 90s, or gated snare drums in the 80s, etc., etc. There's always going to be an overarching trend that is overdone and sold through every audio and visual medium possible, ostensibly because it is 'popular'. In reality the promotion probably has as much to do with its popularity rather than it being something that originated in youth culture or from a small group of highly innovative artists.

Anyway, I'm not trying to turn this into a negative thread, I'm just adding my 2c to why I think there is a trend of negativity towards the dance music of the past few years.

Personally I like a lot of dance music throughout previous decades. Motown produced what is essentially dance music, a lot of late 60s/early 70s soul was dance music, disco was definitely dance music, the rave culture of the late 80s was definitely a great antidote to staid the music industry became by the mid 80s, the various underground dance genres that were pushed to the fore in the 90s were a breath of fresh air.

To be honest it's only really the past few years that my interest in mainstream music of any sort has flagged, yet there are still some great pieces produced here and there.

Hell, I'll even post some tracne that I like... :hihi:
