Yeah some people make good valid points here. But being hard to install is far from the truth.
Also if I ever make big changes to my computer I will move the licenses back to the cloud first.
Yet another Waves license horror story

I've never had issues yet either, but a quick question... Is everyone who's experienced an issue like this on Windows?C-note wrote:ditto! Even if it is a Windows only problem, I might still begin either putting the licenses on a USB or sending to the cloud first.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I'm on Windows too and from this thread I take it that a stick at least needs to somehow break to lose the license while the softlicense on the machine is getting lost without any good reason as far as the user is concerned.elxsound wrote:Even if it is a Windows only problem, I might still begin either putting the licenses on a USB or sending to the cloud first.

What else are forums for? This thread has been incredibly helpful, with good information.PatchAdamz wrote:I took option 4, drop Waves and go with the competition who offers realistic support at equal or better the quality.
I'm not one to complain about a company in a forum but this is ridiculous.

Never had an issue with Waves, and more importantly they have fantastic support. I had an issue last week where Waves support remotely fixed an issue for me, pretty good also they make very good and more importantly reliable plugins.

Except Element Waves do FX plugs right, so as OP seems to be unable to distinguish between VST plugs and VSTi plugs, as this thread is for some reason posted in the instrument sub-forum and not Effects.
So I trust Waves know a lot more what they are doing that the OP.

True Waves are more FX orientated, maybe there should be a separate category for plug-in installation issues where we could help one another out, share experiences etcNumanoid wrote:Except Element Waves do FX plugs right, so as OP seems to be unable to distinguish between VST plugs and VSTi plugs, as this thread is for some reason posted in the instrument sub-forum and not Effects.

I've always had a great experience with eLiscenser too and up until recently it was the only one that allowed installation of the license on either dongle or disk which was a deal breaker for me. Of course ilok now does this too…but not on all license, only a few so far.

Except that it seems the OP is drugged up, I find little user experience in the OP that can apply to others.

Today, in a fit of madness, I clicked the shortcut to unleash Cubase upon myself, when I was greeted with the following unholy statement :
"There are no Waves licenses on this computer"
It seemed as though the Waves licenses had escaped and were perhaps running rampant through the unsuspecting back lanes of Cornwall - possibly eating peoples flesh, or brains, or something ...
I knew I had to act fast, so I opened Waves License Centre (in a spooky way) and there it was before me ...
my computer ... was no longer attached to my computer.
As the waves licenses had fled, they must have caused part of my computer to develop a split personality. My computer now appeared in BOTH the attached devices AND the unattached devices simultaneously, but with different names!
Dun dun daaaaaaaaa.
It turned out that the waves licenses existed only in the mind of the unattached personality.
So long story short, I had to recover the licenses and put them on an old USB stick (of doooooom). Another hour of creative time wasted on fixing pointless copy protection that helps nobody. I now have to hope it doesn't happen again for at least a year or I'm completely fu....

I find elicenser less intrusive and less hassle than ilok.pinki wrote:I've always had a great experience with eLiscenser too and up until recently it was the only one that allowed installation of the license on either dongle or disk which was a deal breaker for me. I don't even allow Microsoft auto-updates on my machine because of the havoc they've wreaked on my machine in the past. I do very controlled updates periodically but turned off the auto-update service completely. The risk of damage from Microsoft is far greater than the risk of a virus. Which I tend not to get because I practice extremely safe computing. No torrents, cracks, porn, etc..

Seriously the once only reclaim or one year wait p!sses me off because it's completely unrealistic to how people work with computers. Just a hard drive crash can cost you your once a year reclaim. I already argued they should at least allow remote deactivate so that the license can be removed but they're sticking to their guns. It incentivizes crack use no ifs ands nor buts. I can't say I feel sorry for a company like this when it gets cracked...PatchAdamz wrote:Also Same problem here...
Waves offered three options: re-purchase, wait one year to reset, or allow them to connect to my computer to access files on a business computer.
I took option 4, drop Waves and go with the competition who offers realistic support at equal or better the quality.

I agree that it's not ideal. If your plug is under wup, then it should be covered, PERIOD. But that is why I went stick. If a HD fails, then you are not totally SOL. I might be wrong but I think sticks are safer than HD's?
