Hello,

We've just finished working on some plug-ins that might be of interest to some people. They basically work in the same way that any other audio effects plug-ins would work, but you can load and save pre-sets using a text field in the bottom right hand corner. This is really useful for us as it allows us to understand the way that humans perceive timbral transformations, semantically. This is also useful for the people using the plug-ins as they get access to a bank of dynamically changing pre-sets that are hopefully very representative of the music production community.

The plug-ins can be downloaded here:
http://www.semanticaudio.co.uk

...and you can find out some more details of the project by reading through the documentation section.

Thanks :)

The project is also open source and can be found on Github:

I tried these a few days ago - I can see how the text input might be useful to you as a tool for research into the semantics of audio terminology but I can't really see how it could be useful to the end user. For example it seems to recognise words like 'warm' and create a curve based presumably on some sort of averaging out of other users' perception of what 'warm' means in terms of an EQ curve, but if I type in 'warm' again tomorrow, when other users might have added their interpretations, I might find it drawing a very different curve. Also it seems not to be able to recognise more useful and precise terms like high cut.

We have just released a new version of the plug-ins.

There is now an improved interface for the loading of descriptors. You can actually see what descriptors exist on the database rather than having to hope.

Check them out at our website http://www.semanticaudio.co.uk/ (http://www.semanticaudio.co.uk/)

Is it just the new version which wont validate? Do the older versions validate fine on your system?

I just did some new OSX builds. You should be able to download them at the same link.

They worked on a 10.6 machine. I don't have a 10.7 machine to test them on.

If you could let me know if they work it would be a great help.

@Semantic_Audio
interesting
i am in the planning stages of my undergraduate dissertation
which will cover some of these 'semantic' areas
would be cool to discuss how you arrived at your terms etc

Always nice to see some new free plugins. I will have a play around with them in the next few days and see what's what :)

I can't get these to show up in Live 9 browser. Live scans the folder on startup but nothing after that. I use XP 32bit ... Live 9.1.4

I found the answer in another thread (audiothing valve filter) ... had to install Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4

I've just used both the eq and distortion in a mix. Both very useful. A completely unscientific comparison with a few other eq's for a specific task in the mix yielded the most preferable results with your eq so I left it in the project. Would love to see a hpf/lpf bookending the eq and an overall gain to compensate for changes. Still a very nice eq as is - love the interface. Yet to put the comp through its paces but looking forward to it :)
