Hey, I was wondering which virtual instruments are available to play old FM sounds from Yamaha synths on Mac OS X? I know FM8 can do that, and maybe FMHeaven too? But are there others that are cheaper or free?
I want my LatelyBass!
Thanks!

It seems to be free to download. You might have to patch it yourself though.
I don't know very much about Mac OSX software, since I could only dream about having a Mac. I'm trying to be helpful.
EDIT: Oh I read the OP again and it seems they want to use patches from Yamaha FM synths somehow? Oh well...

I think Rhino can do this.
Rhino keeps coming up for sale quite cheap in the marketplace, in fact there was one available just a few days back for around $30, for Rhino and all the soundbanks. Maybe its still for sale.
EDIT: looks like it was sold

FMHeaven can import TX81Z and DX7,
I prefer the sound of Toxic Biohazard, I know either Solid Bass or Lately Bass is in the presets, not sure which one or both...
If you own Kontakt 4.2.4 or higher you could maybe check this sample product out...

The answer to the OP's question is DEXED:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 8#p5822418
It's free, it's stable on Mac OS, it's being developed, it can load DX7 patches (I tested it). Did I mention it's free? No need to buy KOMPLETE for FM, in other words.
The GUI is a bit messy currently, but a new one is in the pipeline. Also currently, Dexed is VST only, but an AU should be under development.

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Dexed is very nice but given my druthers I'd take Komplete. You get at least three synths that can do audio rate modulation - FM8, Absynth, Massive - plus Reaktor and hence access to all the crazy FM things people have uploaded to the user library.

Hmmm... FM8 is my desert island plugin. I have hundreds of crazy great presets for it. It's a must have in my opinion, save up your money and I'll send you my vast FM7-8 preset collection!

Definitely start with dexed. Great fm synth. Some other cool little synths that rely heavily on fm are synplant, Aalto and axon (rhythm focus).

Maybe it can't import DX7 sounds, but Nemesis is great for PC or Mac.pcf wrote:Hey, I was wondering which virtual instruments are available to play old FM sounds from Yamaha synths on Mac OS X? I know FM8 can do that, and maybe FMHeaven too? But are there others that are cheaper or free?
